Thank you very much for doing this video. There are ALOT of people trying to get into this space right now (column speakers). I think the popularity of the concept is driving new products now as well like not only the Yamaha Stagepas 1k... but also the new Peavey LN1263 (which looks great by the way in my opinion) and the Mackie SRM-Flex. The problem, as many are pointing out, is that there are so few videos that do a decent job comparing them. I am in this bucket as well. I would love to go into a retail store that had a Turbosound IP2000 sitting next to a LD Systems Maui 28 G2 sitting next to a Yamaha Stagepas 1k sitting next to an RCF Evox J8 sitting next to an EV Evolve 50 sitting next to a Peavey LN1263 sitting next to a Mackie SRM-Flex. But that place will only ever exist in my mind i suppose :-) Anyway, the point is... we love these videos and thanks for taking your time to post them! Keep'em coming on the column arrays! And if anyone knows if a place like that exists tell me.. i'll buy the next plane ticket there.

I was looking at something to use in place of my SWR California Blonde for a multitude of uses. I decided on the Evolve 50 and thought... what the heck, I'll get two. No sooner than I got them in, someone asked if I could supply sound for an event in a 500 seat auditorium. This was a group that I place Bass Guitar in and my first thought was... "this is not going to be enough coverage or power to do the job." But as there wasn't anything in the plans for something better, I said we could give it a try. I had also purchased an Allen & Heath Qu-PAC digital mixer and stage box. So we pack everything up including mics and get there and set up. The band consisted of My Bass Guitar running through a SansAmp Bass Driver DI, an Electric Guitar running through some kind of multi-effects/amp simulator into a DI, a Keyboard into a DI, an Acoustic Guitar into a DI, two Vocals and my older DW Bop kit(18" Bass Drum) with a internally mounted Beta 52 and a single Rode NT5 as and overhead. I had our regular mix engineer running front of house and monitors(via wired IEMs). Because I thought it would make it easier, we set levels first with the Evolve 50s turned off. Once levels were set pretty close, I turned the Evolve 50s on(they had been previously turned down to 00 internally) and slowly raised the level while the drummer played a steady beat. By the time I got the first side to unity... the hairs on my arms were standing up and I was flabbergasted at how loud the Evolve 50s were and also how punchy the Bass Drum was "and" the smoothness of the highs(Hats, Ride and Crash Cymbals). We rehearsed and shut it down to come back in the morning for the gig. In the morning, we warmed up. Both the mix engineer and I heard comments of how good these units sounded and that it was full enough and loud enough to be heard outside of the building. All of us in the band were completely amazed. I was not expecting this much good, smooth sound out of these. Seriously, Electro-Voice surprised me. Now they obviously aren't for every situation. the 120 x 40 dispersion is a bit wide to not run into problems, but we had a very wide room with good acoustic properties. But if you want a capable system, able to go moderately loud while putting out quality sound and you don't want to have subs, tops, amps and all that... this is and excellent way to go, imho.

Hi Robin, first and foremost thank you for all your videos and also, what is most definitely the best EV Evolve 50 YT reviews to date. I have recently purchased a pair of these for our 5 piece Rock Covers Band and they are awesome. We can easily do a show of 200-300 with a full band no dramas. The 12 inch sub did concern me a little with its ability to handle the kick drum, though it is fine and keeps its composure really well with a nice punch and suprising feel for its size. The dispersion of the Evolves need to be experienced to truly be appreciated, feedback is actually less of an issue and we find that patrons are more comfortable over the entire room as opposed to certain areas. If there is one slight criticism, I'd like to see EV release a taller mid extension piece, possibly another 1-1.5 feet taller to raise the array as in some situations with denser crowds the Evolves throw attributes are affected. We considered all the contenders in the "column array market”. The only system that compares for a similar price IMO is the LD Systems Curve 500 TS. Not sure if you deal with LD Systems though it would be great to see these go up against the EV Evolves. We also checked out the new Yamaha Stagepas 1K and JBL EON 1 which are both great but wouldn't cut it in a full rock band situation. Overall the EV Evolves are an absolute no brainer. These are great times we live in. T H A N K S A G A I N!

Total system is 1000 watts. Anyone know if this is RMS or peak? I have been using the system for 2 years now and I use for DJaying up to 200 folks. I love them. Just a curiosity question
@peterwh53973 жыл бұрын
I believe it is peak. If it was RMS, it would blast the assembly to pieces. I use a vintage bass amp rated at 60 W RMS in reasonable size venues with plenty of power. I think manufacturers that specify peak wattage only are unprofessional. The tech spec for Evolve 50M only specifies one wattage and they do not have the decency to specify RMS?? Bose do the same thing. These guys don't even tell us which wattage it is, peak or RMS. You just have to guess?? PreSonus are more professional and specify peak and RMS. A bit of a sales gimmick for unsuspecting customers??? It is interesting to note that the guys making these reviews also follow through with the peak wattage spec only. I don't think I have seen any review where they would specify both wattages. If a manufacturer does not give them both specs I guess they are unable to advise us of RMS as they may get sued. I get totally annoyed when some sales guy at a retail outlet starts spruking to me about wattage when we all know that peak wattage is irrevelent. We really need to know the wattage that the amp can reasonably produce before it starts going into unacceptable distortion, and it is not peak. Lol. Having rambled on above, the review presenter did a great demo and the quality of sound on my small computer speakers was the best. Probably the best I have heard. Thank you.

@@TheEricaJones yes. Definitely something I can consider. I have them for $1,200 each. Originally were just under $1,750 each out the door. Work like new, look great, used in church. Send me and email with city and state where you live so I can get a shipping quote. J_patino562@live.com

Good 😌 review on that price range, however if you have 250 or more people in a party this system is not compatible , first the tops can’t go up in high and if you purchase a sub and put it under to raise the M50 up you defeat the purpose and if you get another system like RCF is to costly, so the traditional system still better

For a little more money, get the Bose F1 system. A set of Evolve 50s is $3000 equaling 2000 watts total. A set of Bose F1's is $4000 equaling 4000 watts total. Twice the power and can definitely cover 400 to 600 people. I own 4 Bose F1 systems. It's the lightest loudest portable line array system you can buy. Why pay 3k for 2k watts. Bose it's 4k for 4k watts. Way better value!

The Evolve has tons more bass. Edit- I was incorrect. The F1 has more bass, although I think the Evolve is a better value.

@@monteanderson7181 I own both. The Bose F1 sub hits way harder than the EV, but the EV still sounds good

@@miketyler7616 @Mike Tyler @Mike Tyler Yes, you're correct. My mistake. I was thinking of the S1 system, which is not even in the same league as the Evolve. The F1 sub is a great unit, and does go deeper than the Evolve. My mistake. I still think the Evolve is a better system than the F1 system, because I just don't care for the tops. The sub is phenomenal, though.

Just bought one. Tried it out against the Bose l1 16 & the JBL prx one. The Bose was great but sounded a bit thick, the EV is clean & punchy. The JBL was just rubbish & for 2000 watt didn’t match the others.

I hate to be the opposite in this love fest...but I think it is muddy. Way to much low mid 250K ish and no quality low end. It sounds like someone over EQ'd the low end to compensate for real lack of frequency response.

My experience with EV speakers is... if you buy 1, you may as well buy a dozen replacements and save a trip:)

Totally agree, I moved from EV 6 plus years ago. They are not the same bullit proof speaker pa company they were known for. Cheap, sticky,smelly, Chinese crap now and there amps and cabs are cheap.

Sound quality is poor...as presented with his room and mic, mic position. Boomy tilted-up mid bass, scratchy, spitting sizzle. OK, so we assume that this result is due to the total combination at this location. How does it really sound? This demo won't tell. Funny how the demo person doesn't seem concerned. Typical demo from sound people, ironic.
