Hi John, I sing on a tracks from laptop.Repertoar includes jazz, pop, disco, mostly venues up to 70 people.I use now two passive EV S152 each 200Watts speakers with CROWN amp 2x525 Watts..My speakers are heavy and I would like to switch to EKX 12P.Would I have better sound and enough coverage with 12” speakers.I am kind of afraid that I would lose that bass from my old 15” speakers when playing disco songs.What is your opinion?Thanks in advance on your answer.

Great review as always, very informative. I have just one question and need little help, what combination would be the best for 5 members band, vocal, two back vocals, two guitars, bass, drums, keyboard. We tend to go all true mixer and play small to medium venues , and we play rock and blues music. Would it be better to combine two EKX 12 together with 15 subs, or two EKX 15 with 18 subs? Thanks in advance.

EXK 12 tops and EXK 15SP subs is a GREAT combo.. for events of 150 people it would be excellent and easy to move!

@@discjockeynews Great way to put things in perspective 👍. I'm still little bit concerned will the 12 plus 15 subs combo work if we run in to some open venues for about 300-400 people because that could be the option if this pandemic comes to the end?

John thanks...this is what owners or prospective owners of PA Gear need to hear....the possible choices and what each version ( e.g.12" plus sub vs 15" with or without sub) might give you for a particular type of music. Well done!!! Excellent!!

Quick question for you Jon; I am using the EKX12s with an EKX18SP, and while you have your sub at +2db, whenever I have my tops at 0db and am running them pretty loud (such as for a youth dance), my 18 has the limit light starting to flicker at -3db or so. If I have the sub at 0db like the tops, at higher volumes the sub limits a lot faster. Is that normal or is there something wrong with my sub? I've never even seen the limit light on the tops. Maybe my DDJSX is just sending a hot signal...

Jordan Nelson I run the same setup. I have sub dsp set to live mode and between 120 - 150hz. Those settings usually get me the most bass with less limiting. Also I set my tops music or club mode with no sub low cut since it takes a lot to get them to LIMIT.

HI disc disc jockey news. I have noticed that you have had the chance to use and hear both the ev ekx 15p and the rcf art 745 . Can you tell me which one sounds better in terms of clarity and overall performance

+s12imple The RCF fall in between the EKX 15 and the ETX 15... it is a bit nicer than the EKX (maybe).. but I give the ETX 15 a slight node.. but, you are talking such MINOR sound differences... it might really come down to price and sound pressure needed.. I believe the 745 has more SPL than the EKX...

+getmandc I am starting to lean toward traditional cabinets more than the line array type systems so I can aim the sound away from me. I have used the wide coverage gear for many years and I think that extra sound exposure has had a negative effect on my hearing...

I'm not a big fan of thin line array speakers but I was thinking of getting the SCXSYS3A Complete SCx 5000W Active PA System which uses the same TRx3018A Active Subwoofers as the line array system... wasn't sure which one sounds better for the money EV or Carvin?

+getmandc Boy... those two systems are really two different sounds.. wish I had both of them here and I could do a test.. if you aren't a fan of the line array look/feel.. then I would look EV.. if you wanted some high powered line array/stick speakers.. Carvin is your answer here...

Is the sound much different between the ETX series tops and the EKX?

Daniel Graves Not that I have heard them side by side.. but, my idea that you hear a difference in the SUBS more than the tops... I am sure (just due to price and quality difference) there is a sound difference between the two. But, the difference can't be much. But, on the bass side, I think the subs might show a larger difference when comparing just from my memory of what the ETX 18 sub could do.

Hey Jon!😊 i have EKX 18SP and two ZLX15P for my tops how do you set the DSP from ZLX 15P when you turn on the sub from ZLX15p i dont see any EKX sub option? there are only 80hz 100 hz 120 hz 150 and ELX18p. any help would be appreciated Thanks!!😆😆

zlx was made for elx sub but I also use the ekx18sp. So I set my zlx to elx

+Bobby Sandhu Hey Bobby.. the only time RMS means anything is with unpowered speakers and matching up amps to go with the speakers. In Powered.. or in most speakers.. the really key is the real world SPL or sound pressure rating. That is what we need to know. I have seen some 10,000 watt boxes (yes, they exist) that had an real world SPL rating of about 128 db.. and some 1500 watt boxes that pushed a real world SPL of 136 db..

+Bobby Sandhu The Yamaha DSR would be nearer the sound/quality of the EV ETX speakers.. I would put them in this order of quality/sound/abillty... EV EKX, Yamaha DSR, EV ETX... any of the three would rock. It really depends on what type of events you are doing. If you are doing larger events and teen dances with 500+.. then you would want DSR or ETX... if you are doing events under 400 most of the time. the EKX would really be fine. sound wise.. I doubt you would be able to tell much of a difference in a blind sound test.. until you get to VERY high volumes..
