Ok so I checked and Trump is actually talking about EV boats with much higher voltage batteries, like 300V or 400V. So I kind of agree with him that that much voltage can be pretty dangerous in salt water if you are too close to its contacts, and I assume considering the risk, boat makers have systems in place to avoid that voltage to be in water if the boat sinks. I used to work for a boat system company and we were quite careful around any risks. So the danger may still be irrelevant... especially to a political campaign! The pigeon rescue reminded me of the time my neighbors had a large cane of giant bamboo that had grown right through the two phases of her power pole while she was out of town, so me and an eagerly helpful friend of mine decided to handle the situation ourselves. There were blasts of sparks hitting the bamboo every time it shifted and shorted out the phases so I tried not to touch it when that was happened but felt a couple strong zaps before I finished cutting it. I told my friend “SH** I just got zapped!” And he responded by saying “NOO WAYY!!” and grabbing the bamboo pole with both hands and practically bounced off it running running the opposite direction and making squealing noises. We dropped that huge bamboo pole perfectly without any damage right after so all in all it went well!

The look of glee on Mehdi's face watching the grounded projectiles shorting the high voltage power lines: priceless
I worked on a 960 volt DC system for a hybrid boat, it is definitely a concern. The boat had ground fault monitoring systems that blew pyro fuses in the battery modules, and in the series connections between them, eliminating the risk to what is shown in this video. I volunteered to test the GFI on the live system. I had done it many times before on a 1000V power supply, so I knew it worked, but it was still nerve-wracking when you hoped everything was going to go bang but your finger.

Trump (guessing here) was probably ranting about electric boats with a huge Lithium battery. Having a DC battery of several 100V in the water might give you a tickle but i think in the sea, salt water has lower bulk resistance than you (more so lard-ass DJT). As long as you don't touch the terminals you won't get electrocuted. However if it's shorted and the cooling is not enough it miht still catch fire? hhat would be scary. Can we chuck someone's Tesla in the harbour to confirm?
@mikestevens41472 ай бұрын
I mean, 30 gallons of gasoline in the water around you and one spark would be pretty bad too. Actually a lot worse since lithium burns slowly and doesn't ignite in a big flash. kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6PLlWB8i5mlmJo
@leonhardtkristensen40932 ай бұрын
Sea water doesn't give a total short. It would probably boil around the terminals and then break the connection. I don't believe the battery would over heat. Also the sea water would cool it pretty well. Next the sharks are supposedly very sensitive to electric current in the water and would probably swim away. It would then be safer to sink with an electric boat than a normal one.
@katiequeen7225Ай бұрын
The entire thing was really stupid, like a shark is most likely not even gonna come close to attacking you. Cows are more dangerous than sharks ffs Essentially trump's rant was "this one thing that probably won't harm you or this other thing that won't"

Trump in that clip is talking about an electric boat, not a 12V car battery that happens to be in one. If there is only a little hot dog behind the nail, the cooked hot dog in front of the nail will cook that end bit enough. Second, have an amp meter in the circuit. I forget if it goes up or down, but it changes rapidly when the hot dog is done. Cooked hot dogs have a very different impedance from raw hot dogs.

@@Case_ Using already invented technology to create something brand new can be ground breaking. It's the same with making music. All the same old "outdated" chords can create brand new songs. Or the alphabet. Same old alphabet, yet some books are classics and best sellers while others are utter garbage the moment the ink hits the page. It's how you arrange them that counts. And still many ground breaking works can be achieved using the same old things. It's one of the many complexes of these last two dumbed down generations. They don't know their own history or heritage because they tore it all down. The moment they see a bicycle for the first time they literally think they're the ones who discovered it. And even though every square inch of the earth was already pioneered hundreds of years before they were unfortunately spawned, they aren't able to find their own butt hole without a "smart" phone attached to a GPS system and they don't know how to wipe without a Google tutorial. But if you were to attach some LEDs to a turd they'll buy it. Give that same turd 100 complex menus to turn those LEDs on and off and they'll pay four times the original price! Guaranteed. For there is nothing new under the sun...

@@JerryCalvert-x9u Your analogy with music really doesn't work, because he's not using the same "chords", he's using the exact same "song". But OK. Don't let me get in the way of your unhinged rambling.

0:40 some heaters light up. This would be a waste of energy. Some vibrate or make noise. Some have an LED or neon. These would all be wasted energy
@mikestevens41472 ай бұрын
That was the first thing I thought - it's the opposite in the case of a heater - light is the waste.
@tsm6882 ай бұрын
no its not. even a 100% perfect light source would still end up as heat eventually, as the light is reflected and absorbed various objects, unless you let the light escape the room.

Re the HV isolator being opened with the huge aecs. - this would only happen in an emergency, as the damage to the isolator arms is severe. The HV circuit is opened under load by a large contactor where each phase is in a long tube full of insulating gas (SF6) and moved by high pressure air to drive the contacts. Its a very loud noise clearly a violent and scary operation. The open air isolator typically has 3 positions - closed, open and earthed. The 3 phases are connected to ground to short induced voltage to earth for maintenance on the installation. I've operated one of these and they are scary enough, long (8 ft ) wispy arc that sizzle above your head.

If you look at a heat pump or an air conditioner you can note that upon inputting 1000 watts of power you can obtain from 3,000 to 10,000 watts of usable heat. Although the heat pump is absorbing heat from the atmosphere the heat just migrates back to where it came. You can do the same thing with capacitors that absorb electrical polarity from their surroundings.
