I have a 6 year old Volt Metro. Design isn't a Volt strong point, that's a new design and the frame looks similar to old Volt foldables. Plus that style of frame is used by other manufacturers. For £3000 I would expect something more stylish, they could have put more effort into the frame design.

That double kickstand looks like a great idea. My RadExpand 5 folding bike has just the single kickstand, and the process of folding and unfolding it gets awkward, unless you have three hands.

Sparkling video, Eilis, you worked hard at getting the message across on safety in the dark, to your credit. That helmet is brilliant, although the strap is a bit wayward, flapping around, perhaps they could do something with the fixings for £125 a pop? Bike is brilliant, fantastic stand arrangement and that seat looks like a mini throne for a cyclist. But the price is squawkingly... well, it is. But can totally get why you like it and recommend it in the folding category. Another visual splendour to see you in action. Evening brightened, thank you.

Definitely getting there with this bike, seems a little small for taller riders but motor in the middle = excellent , fold = excellent, belt drive = excellent, gears = more needed , for taller riders = room for improvement just a little elongated version would be better , the helmet never seen before = excellent , your review = excellent plus , so then overall as said earlier definitely getting there .

This looks great; having taken a Volt SE Metro on a number of long train journeys with up to 7 train changes each trip (including changing stations in London, Paris, Geneva* and Milan), just the simplicity of the fold means I would have spent the extra and got the Volt Lite instead, if it had been available 4 years ago. *Kind of - as you are arriving on an international train, you have to go out of the station through customs, and come back in again onto a different platform. Still worth unfolding the bike and wheeling it.

What would be nice to have is not just how many gears but stats on max and min gear ratios to know what the spread of the gears are.
@tomreingold40243 күн бұрын
The Shimano Nexus 3-speed's high gear is 186% as high as the bottom gear. Does that help? You would need to know the chainring and rear cog numbers of teeth for the full picture.
@Hfil662 күн бұрын
@@tomreingold4024 the ratio (186%) is the only number that can be reasonably used. Even knowing the chainrings and cog numbers will not tell you the complete story because you also need to take into account wheel size and other factors, but at least the 186% gives you an idea of the limits between how fast you can ride downhill to how difficult it is to pedal uphill. Thank you.

So many women seem to like the bikes that go 10-15 miles per hour . Basically the assist type. It is amazing to see how much distance and speed you get . The hill climbing is a great test because so many with larger batteries and larger Wattage motors cannot take hills over 20 " . I am amazed by how much they are squeezing out of these bikes. I never was that interested in mid-motor bikes because they are mainly pedal bikes the mix of throttle and pedal is never part of those bikes. After you do long range pedaling it takes a toll on your body. Why getting relief with the throttle helps. ADO is really thinking with their designs. The weight of these bikes is amazing as are the size of the tires much easier to load on a bus or transit.

You left out another advantage to a mid-drive motor. Removing a wheel is easier, if you need to fix a puncture or for any other reason. There is no complication with wiring, and you don't have to handle a heavy wheel.

The motor being in the crank does lose power because the actual part putting power to the ground is the wheels.
@dogbreath69743 күн бұрын
@falconreconeight Incorrect. A mid drive has the advantage of using the gears to increase or decrease the speed, a hub drive just drives the wheel, so whatever gear your in the bike does not go faster or slower, unlike a mid drive that uses the chain or belt to gain speed which helps the motor.
@falconreconeight3 күн бұрын
@@dogbreath6974 ya but the closer the power source is to the wheel the less power is lost on transition.

@paulnewman20002 күн бұрын
@@happydeathfish2166 The Brompton has a front hub motor. In my view that's inherently dangerous, as the motor vibration can cause the forks to fatigue and fail unexpectedly. A failure in front forks will cause a much more catastrophic accident than a failure in rear forks, which also have 2 points of attachment so are less likely to fail anyway. If a mid drive motor mount fails, you avoid accidents altogether.

You made one serious mistake when riding this bike, and that's SHIFTING while pedaling. NEVER shift a Shimano OR Sturmey-Archer internally geared hub while pedaling the bike. It destroys the gears, and kills the hub. All you need to do is stop pedaling and SHIFT. You don't need to stop the bike.
