I'm no fan of EV's (or SUV's), but in my opinion, this is where EV's shine. Small car, small battery, lightweight, fast-ish to charge, easy to park and with modest price (for an EV). As a city runaround, it makes a lot of sense and has a fun element. With EV's now so big, heavy and expensive and 100kWh batteries becoming the norm, the YoYo just sticks two fingers up to all that. Nice review too.

Well, yes, but no!. From an engineering perspective small cars are much more difficult to design ,especially to meet legislation, customer expectation and value. Larger cars are easier to design. So this is for people who don't want to carry anything bigger than a handbag and a couple of ready meals, don't have a family to carry anywhere, don't travel more than 10 miles from home, don't want to travel on motorways, dual carriageways or A roads and don't want to charge in public ...presumably because they have another car that does all of that. Even for a dedicated city car, it's a bit niche isn't it? It's basically a luxury disability scooter for the elderly widow. I like the idea of a small city car, but it does need to be able to carry 4 people in a squeeze, it needs to be able to carry 6 bags of shopping, it needs to do the national speed limit in comfort and it needs to be able to travel at least 100 miles ...at night with the lights on and with wipers and heater actually running.

@@adrianthoroughgood1191 You're making the argument about labels. The Fiat 500e is a small city car that ticks all the boxes. If you go much smaller/paired back than that, then there are so many compromises involved, it begs the question; why?
@jonevansauthorАй бұрын
@@Martyntd5 the Fiat 500e fits 4 exceptionally small people. Not adults. Be realistic. And this is a quadricycle, so perhaps you should expect quadricycle things from it. I don't know why you can't take it on a dual carriageway, or A road. It's legal. The only reason I can think of is that you're an abject coward and terrified of small vehicles? The handbag and a couple of read meals comment is exceptionally ludicrous, just like most of what you said. Clearly you could fit the weekly shop in there. And as for the number of seats, it's got two. Which is the exact number of people found in the overwhelming majority of car trips in the UK and most countries. It's usually one, or two. Rarely is it more. So yes, there's an enormous market for small vehicles that don't fall over, unlike mopeds and motorbikes, and have a roof, and only two seats. Saying it hasn't got enough seats is like saying you think a yacht is rubbish because it doesn't fly. You can't travel more than ten miles from home in it? Well, I suppose you might not be able to do so, because presumably you plan to crash it if it gets to 11 since the range clearly permits you to go a good seventy miles if it's somewhat overestimated as those claims are on most EVs and indeed, petrol vehicles. I could get to London from here, and so could most of the country's population. And if I've gone as far as 60+ miles, it's not likely to be for less than four hours. The reason you want this vehicle over a Fiat 500e is that it's about 1,100 mm shorter. I don't know if you ever drove a Smart car but the parking was amazing and no, you can't park them nose on. But for on street parking, they're fantastic. In a car park, they have an amazing turning circle, and the visibility is insane. I don't know what the turning circle is on this but it's probably similar. You may not be the target market but there is one, and it's absolutely enormous in case you hadn't realised how popular Smart car clones are worldwide and how much more rational everyone else is about driving than you apparently are.

Not cheap enough for what it is. It needs to be well under £10k. When other cars like this have been reviewed in China they are just a few thousand. Might be interesting to see where the money is going and yes there are extra costs/taxes in the UK. And let's not forget the looming road tax next year. This will be the same as much larger cars. I've owned a Smart and room wise it looks very much the same. I was hoping an influx of cheap Chinese microcars would fill the gap but at that price I don't think they will sell.
@jonevansauthorАй бұрын
I think they will sell because it sounds better than the outgoing Smart ForTwo to be honest. Just because of the up to date tech. Yes, the speed is not as good, and I'd absolutely prefer a full car, but it still has a place. I do think it's a bit expensive, but, it's vastly cheaper to run than a petrol Smart and there's none of that dodgy Mercedes engineering I had to put up with on my Smart. Even the engine compartment was held down with a weird screw that basically didn't work, instead of literally thousands of reliable fastenings they could have used and would have been cheaper. Because they're a total joke of a company and always have been. It was the Swatch folks that got it built, Mercedes stuffed it up and couldn't make it properly. But I still loved the thing. I'd love one of these.... but yes, the price is high, and my Smart was extremely expensive at the time as well compared to a Fiesta or similar. On the second hand market though? I really want to see what these come in at. And perhaps the price will drop in the future for the new ones. Honestly, if it gets you a Smart sized car like object (this is not a car, it's a quadricycle and that's important) you gain all the advantages of the small size and not having two extra seats you never use so it's worth a premium. But I'd probably suggest a second hand electric Smart for now unless you are loaded, despite Mercedes inability to make as good an EV as they made in Asia at the same size... (because they're hacks)

You did mention Heating & AC but not about what it's consumption is and if it is a Heat Pump (more efficient) or not. That can be a range killer and an important detail I think. The price ? at 16K Pounds I think it's too steep for what this is. Had they doubled the battery then fine. To me, this would be better placed in the 10K-13K range. Given the above, I could see this "grow" into a 4 seat model with larger battery & more cargo area (including fold down rear seat) and make for quite a suitable daily duty runabout.

Try it again with the windows shut and a/c on and see how far you can get. Looks interesting but I'm too old to drive around with the noise from open windows. With a bit higher top speed and a bit more range I would be tempted.

That's a lot more aesthetic in some of its colour options than the AMI in any colour at all. A much more sensible approach to speed and range also. Taking on the Silence S04 in some ways. But I do like how well specified it is inside, the Apple and Google integration, wireless, it exactly the right thing to have delivered. £16k feels expensive, and yes that is a lot of years Commuting to offset. But if it can be used in a wider context that's going to help with the maths of it all. Couple that with an EV tariff, say 5p/kWh and getting about becomes ridiculously cheap. What's the UK Insurance going to be like on one of these?

Great video Tish,the first ev that makes any sense !! the car the Citroen Ami should of been with a sensible top speed.

The Citroen Ami was designed for people in France who don't want to take a driving test (really).

Absolutely fabulous presentation as always the car does what it says it does the car is for shopping and short trips and it will sell like we hot cakes 😊

Living in Manchester and having family in Rural Ireland, I sometimes get totally fed up with the lack of public transport options - if I had secure parking, such a car would enable me to use the only viable ferry option from Liverpool to Dublin (rather than having to drive to Holyhead) and in Dublin, I could drive straight off the ferry with my luggage and use the Irish motorway network via the Port Tunnel without having to navigate Dublin’s traffic and drive straight to my home village in Rural Ireland, where the Irish roads get ever smaller once out of Dublin

I need one of these. Drive it on the motorway!

👀👀Very interesting to see, why can't Smart do this?! The Heavy Quadricyle market is just too few and far between in Europe, even in France with their 2cyl diesels. Yes the Ami is cute but it's an LVe4 that costs the same as a 50mph Twizy that has been sold 12 years ago. I hope we'll see some real competition from China since they've churned out tonnes.

Would be nice if the Yo-yo had fast charging like 6.6kWh. The battery voltage probably is too all for DC Rapid.

Where's the cd player? Physical playback media is needed to stop manufacturers slapping tons of subscription fees into car functions.
@jonevansauthorАй бұрын
Same place it was in most cars in the early 90s. In the unit you buy for your car, after market. Seriously, how many people use CDs anymore? It's got Android Auto.
@Pupp3tM4st3rАй бұрын
Is this some kind of weird joke I'm not understanding? You can just make digital copies of physical media and avoid paying for any subscription. I can't think of any person that would need a cd player in their car

Dacia Spring would be a far better car than this one for what it cost.

What your forgetting, you will have to charge in central London to get back. I'm sure that would cost £30+😂

The range may not be the greatest, and the top speed is somewhat disappointing. But it's got personality for days, for sure. And if you don't have a big commute, it seems like a terrific option as a daily driver. Especially if you have access to a Level 2 at home. Terrific review. Wish we had options like this in the states.

What's more interesting than this minicar is that it's being marketed as a killer of trains and buses.
@e-trippingwithadamgebbett80242 ай бұрын
absolutely. Also, 3d printed, so trim parts should be cheaper and easier to repair. Parking is another plus and to be honest, i drive a 5-seat car most of the time alone. Only negative is it needs to be priced under 15k, as you can buy a smart 4+2 for 14k.

The biggest Downside of electric cars is the batteries degrade over time. You’ll be buying batteries more often than gas cars
