I've had the tenways for a year now and love it. I wanted the belt drive and no gears as every problem I've ever had was with chain or gears. Haven't regretted it, never had an issue on hills, even steep ones.

I agree. There’s a lot of comparison between e-bikes but the carbon belt drive single speed is for me a category of its own and I found during my research always coming back to Tenways. The CGO 600 was recently available for under 1200 euros. Hard to beat.

The torque sensor and belt drive are worth the upgrade, for sure. I also like the battery coming out of the top of the bar instead of having the potential to fall out the bottom and cause a wreck.

I used to commute by bike from West Ealing to Hammersmith, about 7.5 miles each way, but it got too tough as I go older to do it every workday, especially climbing Gunnerbury Hill at the end of the day. If I'd had an electric bike back in the mid 2000s I'd have been able to continue to commute for longer.

Sparkling video, Eilis, you nailed this review, everything covered, very balanced evaluation against the top bike alternative which is very reassuring for new ebikers who want to start off cheaply. Seems a great bike, black-not so good in traffic, though. Good to see a bell included. BTW, that green top is magic, it is really flattering and sharp.

First nice review on the bike, in the choice between less expensive and more, one advantage of the less expensive build is you may find more parts commonality in the market place if you have two replace something, as opposed to a bike built to a custom parts set, the other is use the price differential to kit the bike out how you like it.

When you get tired on a torque sensing bike, your bike acts equally tired. It's a counterintuitive reaction to your diminishing input if you're trying to get somewhere and you're not riding for fitness or sport. That's why the best mid-drives use both cadence and torque sensing. With a cadence only bike, it doesn't sneer at you as you tire. It says, "You al'right mate? I got you."

An example. You're climbing a long steep hill, and it's a single speed belt driven torque sensing bike, and you're running out of steam fast starting to cramp a bit. You and therefore your motor can literally stall climbing that hill. But given the same scenario with a cadence sensing bike, the bike is in a certain power assist mode, can tell you're still moving your legs even if only ghost pedaling, it doesn't relent until the motor or the battery overheats. So cadence sensors may feel less intuitive, and can be jerky if you start in a low gear with the highest assist (I've accidentally wheelied and fallen with shoes clipped in doing that on my powerful homebuilt 750W mid-drive), but for utility cycling, torque sensing alone might be a bit overrated as the premium choice.

I think there are a LOT of forces ensuring enough people spend as much money as possible, and crucially that it's spent in the 'right part of the world' respectively. The consensus is often very sneaky and disingenuous in a lotta ways

Yet another nice looking e-bike but as always you never mention what we all need to know and that is. Where in the world are they made ? What happens if you get an issue with them ? Can you get spares easily from a supplier in the UK ? Who do you contact to get a replacement battery? These bikes are not cheap and having had a number of e-bikes over the last 5 years,not ONE of them have I been able to get a replacement battery for😢Maybe you could try and inform us all of the problems you could encounter when buying one of these bikes and whether or not the bikes you test have a spares backup in the UK

A very good point. I'll keep that in mind for my next reviews 😊 This bike has a removable battery so you could easily buy a new one if you needed to. DYU also has a 1 year all inclusive warranty, you can find out more info on specifics on their website. DYU also has an operating centre in the Netherlands/US/UK/Poland with a factory in Shenzhen

My Trek Domane + SLR 7 actually gets more range than advertised, and I am a heavy rider that rides in a somewhat hilly area of Central Texas. Advertised range in Eco mode is 60, but I have gotten as much as 80-85 miles on a charge.

You may have already done a video on this and I missed it, but I would be very interested in how a torque sensor with a belt drive compares to a cadence sensor with a chain over time. For instance, does one wear out more quickly and is one more expensive or difficult to repair? I wouldn’t mind the extra expense for the belt and torque sensor if it is more reliable and long-lasting, as I have had some bad experiences with chains.

Eilis, when you're riding, I see a little bounce, assuming no suspension. Ok, for city riding, smooth road, no cobblestone it will work. 250W, for England, UK that's the max for the street, for the US, that will increase. 1200 UK pounds, 1500 US $. The weight, not bad, you can lift it, so😊 As always your presentation 👍

Do you have anything in the pipework or indeed already in the office that is aimed at us heavier riders at all .. at the 120kg+ mark as this is a niche with e-mobility that is not really covered at all for us larger riders or users? Would be good to see a test/review real world with a rider at said weight with a rated bike :)

That is a heck of a pump you used to inflate the tires. I have an electric pump about the size of a soda can that I carry in my bike bag, USB C charged.

Perhaps the better comparison would be the Tenways CGO 600, not the Pro, as the front light and smaller battery and lower price make them more similar for entry level considerations. The CGO 600 adds an incredible advantage weighing in at 15 kg, a whopping 4.5 less. This means any kit you need to add will keep the bike under 18.

Chains are more efficient than belts . and . I prefer cadence sensors because the allow me to put in as much or little effort as I want whereas a torque sensor doesn't allow me to be so lazy 🚲

They could make the motor stay within the legal power but have it make more low end torque. There are technological ways to do it but it is effectively like having a 2:1 gear ratio change in the hub motor. The top speed the motor can make is reduced but the torque is about doubled. This would be good for going up hills. On the seat comfort: I think it costs about the same to make a seat that is absolute torture vs making one that is not to bad. It just has to be the right shape and have the right springs. The sharp jarring from the little bumps in the road wears you down. On lifting: There are ways you can lift the big using almost all leg strength. You just need to find a way to get your arm to be holding the bike but not doing the work as you lift it up. On my very different bike this would mean putting my forearm under the upper pipe with my elbow at 90 degrees.

I can see at least 3 bugbears. The seat, the piece that holds the handlebars is not adjustable and obviously the seat is not comfortable enough. Why do they insist on having only one crank and not a larger one with a mid si when coasting downhills over 25.5km/h you are not spinning when peddling. If they could sort those things out I would buy it.

It's interesting how popular these muted colours are as a lot of people like to have more 'covert' bikes to not draw attention. At least that's what I'm told from people/brands. But totally agree, a pop of colour never goes amiss!

85 Nm on the mid-engine does not mean 85 Nm at the wheel. That is simple physics. what 85 Nm on the mid-engine does not mean 85 Nm on the rear wheel. That is only true with a 1:1 reduction ratio. With a normal 7-speed transmission, perhaps half of the 85 Nm reach the rear wheel.

Electro heads is just an advertising platform. The so-called ‘ reviews ‘ are nothing more than thinly veiled adverts, with only the most minor of criticisms that will not deter buyers . The apparent comparative discussion on the two models at the end of this review is painfully scripted to sell both bikes to you with no real criticism of either. Each upload meets this formula. Go elsewhere if you really want to understand e-bikes if you’re new to them, especially individual owners reviews with no financial affiliate links .
