Stripping gold from various items. Experimenting with hydrochloric acid /ammonium chloride and citric acid/ammonium chloride electrolytes. As cathode I used the gold strip made in the previous video.
The gold is recovered from the sludge. Dissolved in AR, de-NOx-ed with sulphamic acid, filtered and precipitated with copperas (ferrous sulphate)

Hi, I'm a computer technician from México. I've keep for a few years 80+ motherboard, 80+ DIMM's, 80+ SODIMM's, 100+ processors, a big box of optical and floppy drive controller boards, a nice bunch of lcd driver and pci boards, about 2Kg of gold plated pins and connectors... It's worth the effort trying to process all of this? First time trying, none of this materials have had any costs, all are replaced ruined parts.

@@OwlTech333 Nothing really, I guess I was concerned that it wouldn't do a good job on those plates. I've been recovering gold from computer scrap for 20 years. Removing the gold from a cellphone board doesn't tell me much because the plating on them is so thin. The CPU metal plates have a lot of gold on them and I would expect it to take a lot longer to remove the gold. You did show doing a Pentium Pro CPU all the way, and they do have a good amount of gold on the top plate. Because I'm not there to actually handle the Pentium Pro CPU, I have no way of knowing if it actually removed all the gold (like it looks) or only removed some gold, and then left a coating that makea it seem like the gold has been completely removed. I say this because I've had it happen to me a lot of times, where I think I've removed all the gold plating, but then if I dip the item in nitric acid the dark coating is removed, and then the item once again takes on a bright gold color. Thank you for your quick response, and I ask your forgiveness because my question did have the tone of an accusation, which may very well be completely unfounded. Keep up the good work. I will continue to share my views, but be a little more polite in the future. Regards, Steve

Stephen Spevak no problem!HE loves creative criticism :) For the record: the citric electrolyte performed much better. Stripping thick plating was much quicker than HCl/NH4CL. Anyway I've been doing this since the beginning of 2015 and having an open mind (experimenting and researching) is how I got here. If I had to follow blindly ORDERS given by people with 20+ years experience, I would've stopped doing this the first time I run out of smb. No offense meant. I value your expertise and experience.

No offense indeed. I'm more than happy to learn from you. I'm glad to hear that the citric acid works better. That's the one I want to try myself. Of course I will let you know what I find out. Have to tried putting a drop of nitric acid on the Pentium Pro plate to see if any gold appears? I hope it would not, meaning that you did all the gold plating. With the citric acid you used 5 volts. I plan to use a computer power supply, and will tap off of the 5 volt leads. Not much more to say for now until I get a chance to start experimenting with it. Will keep you posted .

You responded to another person that stainless could be used in place of the gold for cathode. Would a butter knife that say's stainless work? I know you said the gold worked better, but for those that dont have a gold sheet. Also could regular steel window screen be used as a basket for the anode side?
