Photosynthetic electron flow operates in two modes, linear and cyclic.
In cyclic electron flow (CEF), electrons are recycled around photosystem I. As a result, a transthylakoid proton gradient (ΔpH) is generated, leading to the production of ATP without concomitant production of NADPH.
In linear electron flow (LEF), both the PSs function in series and electrons are transferred all the way from water to NADP+.
In the linear mode, electrons are transferred from water to NADP via three major trans membrane complexes:
Photosystem II (PSII),
the cytochrome b6f complex (cyt bf), and
photosystem I (PSI)...
