There's also a version of this game on GBA and like AWD! I stopped playing after Smaug died. Also for some reason I remember the Wood Elves being called Dark Elves and I think it was possible to get through the game without Bilbo naming his sword Sting, at least that happen to me before I died without saving.

All these fetch quests are giving me a Zelda vibe. I would have loved this back in the day it came out. It does also remind me a bit of the Harry Potter games and I do mean the earlier ones on PS2 and Gamecube. I want to actually play this now.

A few months back, I remember watching Clement do a Let's play of the gamecube version. I would get that version, but sadly, the GC controller feels a bit too small for my hands, and I just prefer the PS2 controller anyway, so the PS2 version it is. Also, gameplay wise, it feels very similar to another platformer called Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy, which has a PC version now.

@txunderball10 жыл бұрын
Actually, there's some 20 - 25 percent of the game left, after the Smaug levels, but these final levels can't hold a candle to Smaug levels which are the sole reason to ever play this very uneven game. And do play the PC version, since there's a quick save option in that version, I think. Also, definitely watch the 70s Rank n Bass cartoon. It's Hobbit retold in 70 minutes and while it may be just a cliff note version of the book, you still get to see all of its main points and moments.
@sagichdirdochnicht46536 жыл бұрын
Nope, there isn't a quicksave option. However, on PC saving is alsmost instant and loading doesn't take long at all either. Which also applys to Hardware of the time, since I never had those issues as a child playing it, and boy did I need to load a lot.

Feels odd to see you complain about the savepoints, that just how games mostly were before the PS3 and 360 generation. There just were no autosaves.
@trixterplays9757 жыл бұрын
Only two exceptions I can think of: Disruptor, a doom clone on the PS1, and Star Fox Adventure on the Gamecube. Well okay, that wasn't really auto saving, just that you could save at any time. It still sets you back just a bit though.

It bugs me that you complain about the dwarves not helping with the giant spiders. That is an integral thing in the plot, since is when Bilbo stop complaining he is not a hero and just do what he has to, and learn he can do anything he put effort on.

7:40 That's not true. If you die in a stage without saving in that stage, it simply takes you to the beginning of the stage. You never go back to a stage you already finished, even if you die. Starting over a stage still sucks, but you still got this a bit wrong.

I guess you could bypass the negative aspect of the game, the slow saving, nowadays by using save states on an emulator. I actually had this game and found it pretty fun but me and my sister got stuck at the section where you had to sneak past the three trolls.

I got this game used back around 2005 and I noticed on the cover it advertised a "Free collectible The Hobbit trading card inside" but I never got it. I'm very Interested what someone had to say about this card. I've never seen it anywhere. If someone could fill me in that'd be awsome
@curtthegamer9343 жыл бұрын
Five years later, but there were actually a few different trading cards made. All the copies of the game that I've bought have had a Gollum trading card, but I know that a Gandalf trading card also existed. It appears that the cards were ever only packaged with the game itself, making them extremely rare. Possibly they intended to make a merchandise line with a bunch of card packs, but such a thing was never made.

If you had played literally any other port of this game (Xbox, GameCube, PC), saving your game would not have taken that long. The PS2 version of this game sucks. Not just in how long the saving and loading screens are, but also has constant framerate lag.
