Great series so far, Scott! The upper IC in your "ScottCAD" drawing is transistor - transistor logic also known as TTL.

I tried to setup this simple open-collector ciruct and when npn transistor is on through 20k i am not getting 0V after the pull-up resistor 220R, it is still shows 5V , no matter transistor is on or off , why , tried many transistors ? It is working perfectly on simulator though .
