Warning to anyone intending to play with USBC to HDMI: These adaptors increase latency of the monitor output drastically! An issue no one ever really talks about. I tried various USBC -> HDMI on ASUS FA506 (2021) laptop. At 4K60, the latency in games went from 20 ms to +60ms, making games entirely unplayable. USBC to Displayport might be better, because USBC natively outputs Displayport, hence no conversion required.
@ElectronicsComputers3 жыл бұрын
USB-C port natively supports a whole bunch of signals including HDMI, VGA, Displayport, digital audio etc. Some people buy not cables that simply transfer native signal but active adapters in order to get 4K at 60Hz when their CPUs/GPUs only support 4K at 30Hz and of course in that case there will be some latency issues. But if your hardware supports 4K@60HZ and you bought a proper cable (the links in the description) there won't be any problems.
@SensitizedX3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsComputers Hey, thanks for your response! I actually tested seemingly active "adapters", like Lenovo USBC to HDMI. These required an additional HDMI cable to be plugged in. My GPU is RTX3070 Mobile with 4K60 support. So your recommendation is for me to buy a passive USBC to HDMI cable, and then there wont be any added latency? If so, that would really help me a lot.
@SensitizedX3 жыл бұрын
@@ElectronicsComputers I have just tested a USBC to HDMI cable (no adaptor involved, passive) and it has the same issues. At 3840x2160, the input latency goes through the roof. I can not use USBC to HDMI in any way to play games at 4K. Latency with HDMI is 20 miliseconds, and with USBC to HDMI is 60 miliseconds.

You think if I get the USB type c to display port, would this help my resolution? To be used at 4k?
@ElectronicsComputers4 жыл бұрын
Have you tried to change it manually in Settings->Samsung Dex->Screen resolution for Samsung Dex? Also try to plug your cable into another HDMI port and also try to change resolution through the setting menu. I'd recommend using USB-C to Displayport in aluminum case that I used in the video. In that case you'll get 4K at 60Hz. Via HDMI 1.4 you'll get only 4K at 30Hz which is not good.

Hello :) Thank you for the video explanation (2+ years later) and very comprehensive replies to comments. I was scrolling through the comments to see if someone already posted the same question. However, I still have a slight doubt whether or not the integrated Intel UHD 620 graphics card can run the 4k at 60hz My Lenovo ThinkPad L590 (20q700aqcx) has Intel i5 8265u processor, Intel UHD 620 graphics card, 16gb of RAM and 512gb SSD. The laptop has only 1xHDMI 1.4 meaning it's limited to 4k 30hz. Manufacturer says that 2x USB-C ports are: -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 1 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort™1.2) -1x USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 (support data transfer, Power Delivery and DisplayPort 1.2)* *Depending on many factors, actual data transfer speed may be lower than theoretical speed'' and they claim on paper that it can run the 4k at 60hz. Could it still be possible to get the 4k 60hz from that Intel UHD 620 using a USB-C>HDMI2.0 cable converter? I will be able to test this live in 3-4 weeks. Thanks in advance for the response and happy New year. :)

Your laptop 100% supports 4k at 60Hz via Displayport. If your monitor has only HDMI port then it's only possible by using an active converter. You need a Qgeem USB-C to HDMi cable in aluminum case. It doesn’t matter whether a USB-C port supports Thunderbolt or not. Simply having a USB-C port doesn’t guarantee it supports Alt Mode for video and audio transmission. Many USB-C ports, especially on budget laptops, are limited to basic data transfer. According to HP’s website, there’s no mention of DisplayPort Alt Mode support for the model you specified. USB-C is a universal interface that can combine several technologies into a single connector. When used to connect a monitor to a laptop, it can operate in alternate modes, such as DisplayPort Alt Mode or HDMI Alt Mode. In terms of video quality and performance, there is no difference between using a USB-C connection in these modes and using a traditional HDMI or DisplayPort cable, as they carry the same video signals. However, USB-C offers additional features beyond just video transmission. For example, it can provide power delivery (PD) if both the monitor and laptop support this feature, allowing the monitor to charge the laptop without needing a separate power supply. USB-C can also support other functionalities like data transfer and audio, making it a versatile and convenient option. In summary, USB-C can carry the same video signals as HDMI and DisplayPort while offering extra features such as power delivery and data transfer capabilities, making it a more flexible solution.

So far the KVM switch now works with this setup. Note, the mouse and keyboard are connected to the USB 3.1 ports of the monitor...There are 3 of them. This setup worked perfectly for the mouse and keyboard only, since I don't have video on a old first gen Ryzen 7 AMD processor I knew it wouldn't work for video. However video did work with when plugged to a HDMI on the GTX 1050ti graphics card and then to monitor for video. Mouse/keyboard working. Now PC #2 is plugged into the Displayport of the monitor coming out from DP source of the RTX 4090 with a typical USB3.1 B-Type cable coming from the monitor to PC 3.1 USB on MB port for mouse and keyboard functions. KMV now works as intended and can switch between two PC's I hope this helps anyone with the same situation as mine.

Hello and help! 😅 My notebook is a Dell Inspiron 5584, with just a hdmi 1.4. I want to connect it in my TV LG 4k, but not in 30hz. There's a USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Type-C) port as well. Is there any solution for me? An adaptor maybe? Thanks!
@ElectronicsComputers2 жыл бұрын
That USB-C port is data only and doesn't stream any video or audio. And HDMI port 1.4b also doesn't support 4K at 60Hz. There are some Chinese active converters that can fake the frame rate but they will never perform as good as real 4K video at 60Hz.

That laptop has HDMI 1.4. That 4th generation CPU can't even normally drive 4k at 30Hz. 1080p is the best resolution for that laptop, there's nothing you can do about it.

Technically and standard wise it shouldn't be like that. We don't know how they performed that test. If they used adapters or a dockstation the 30Hz i quite possible but if you'll use a proper USB-C to Dispaly port cable which deliver native video signal I'm pretty sure you'll get 4K at 60Hz.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. A fully functional USB-C port has more data rails than just regular USB data signals. It can transmit audio, video, Ethernet, etc. Even if your laptop has USB-C ports, it doesn't guarantee that it has those features. Some cheap laptops have USB-C ports, but they only transfer USB data. There are some external graphics cards that operate via regular USB port, but there are no reputable manufacturers who make them, and the overall experience with those devices is often terrible.

Technically, it's possible to transmit video signal from a laptop which has Displayport to a monitor with HDMI port but not vise versa.You'll need some sort of adapter to do that. But you shouldn't use those adapters to convert DisplayPort to HDMI. DisplayPort natively outputs in a LVDS signal type that is not compatible with HDMI (HDMI uses TMDS). It does have a dual-mode version that will support TMDS in compatibility mode. It will never work reliably. Just use HDMI to HDMI connection.
