If your resin print needs are on the massive side, then you may want to take a look at the Elegoo Jupiter SE. Think of it as the original Jupiter put on a diet, slimmed down and, most importantly, made more affordable. Here I take a look at the latest Large printer from Elegoo and ask if it's worth it.

@vogman, you will notice that the resin pump has holes for two screws, and there are corresponding threaded holes in the metal plate of the machine where it mounts.

thats for another good review, and i do have to agree: Flip Top lids are something that absolutely should be 'the standard' for resin printers, and i wish to see more of them

great review, ive got the se and its a good printer i don't mind the top myself, as its workable , and on a side note the pump sews to the printer with two sews but elegoo dont tell you take or the sews you need to use

missing the simple but outstanding innovation of the anycubic m3 max. a split front opening lid
@vogman
@vogman 7 ай бұрын
You're right, the Max did come first with that design, though I think similar had already appeared on other smaller printers. However, they clearly thought "This is a big lid. We'd better do something about that." Maybe Elegoo's R&D guys are 7ft amateur basketball players 😁

I was looking into this, but a 6k screen on a 13inch build suface is dissapointing. The resin pump is another point of failure and would of rather the original resin fill from the original Jupiter, and that lid is very silly with the size of the printer. It is just annoying, because this could of been the printer I went with as I am looking at the larger build plate printers, but I think at this point I would be better off buying 2 -3 Elegoo Saturn 2's. Great review as always @VogMan

I bought this printer.this is my very first printer and just jumped in the deep end.im happy with it.the lid does knock off the pump as you said and can be problematic but I only plug it in when I need the vat drained.i was thinking of using that USB port to plug in 2 small adjustable heating pads that I can wrap around the vat i do have an adhesion issue and i thing its the temperature.i have a small closet outside in the patio that I have the printer in and gets nippy here in the evening in california.my first print is luke skywalker holding baby grogu.the prints came out amazing.gonna print the base the weekend.its 1/6th scale.i did get the wham bam flex plate and had to bring the first layer exposure time to 50.i been slicing with chitubox.i tried lychee but noticed my print time almost double after slicing.dont know what that's about.anyway thanks for the video and don't be afraid to use a little profanity. You have a great accent and it would be hilarious to here you drop a few F bombs after dropping the resin bottle.

The USB ports that elegoo use in their printers for their Air Filters are 24V and 0.7A, they're not normal 5V USB. And even if it was a normal USB or their 24V, I'd not recommended plugging any kind of heater even it's a low draw band lest you accidentally fry your motherboard since that USB port is directly connected to it. And also I can't remember if those ports only turn on while printing, in that case you'd need to plug it elsewhere to heat the resin beforehand.

How does this compare to the M3 Max in terms of speed? I love the Max but it's really slow.

Its 2024, time for companies to make some sort of resin heating as standard.
@vogman
@vogman 7 ай бұрын
Absolutely. I completely agree. These same companies manufacture resins with recommended temperatures that rarely occur in many of the countries they're sold. If the resin needs warmth, then the printer should provide it.

I´ve bought the Jupiter because of the upgradable parts in the future and here I am. Seeing an "upgraded" version of the printer itself. That was my last Elegoo printer, for sure.

GREAT REVIEW! Love the honest opinion and fully agree wit hthe pro's and cons. I too do not understand why they still don't have a heating system, because that results in more stable and higher quality prints. (I use a heating "cable" around the vat. One of those you can use for pre liquor fermentation, works great but i'd love to see something intergrated)

Hmm, this vs an Anycubic M3 max which has a slightly bigger build plate? Tough choice for me at least. I still haven't bought a larger format resin printer even though I'd love to. ( You know, wants vs needs) Thanks for your usual no-BS review.

If they upgrade the screen it will be very interesting. I keep waiting with buying a new printer as I'm afraid one of them will finally up the resolution on the big printers but still nothing..

12 and 14k screens are medium factor, these companies don't make the LCDs so they can't really do anything about the fact that there are no sub 43um large LCDs. This year there is rumoured to be large high res LCD though so hopefully they will keep to their promise and make a jupiter upgrade kit when that is avaliable.

I'd still go with the original model. Having a gravity fed resin fill system works and doesn't require power to be used and should be quieter. I'm not against pumps, and frankly they should be selling it as a universal accessory that any printer can use (assuming it works) instead of something proprietary to only the Jupiter SE. Seriously, why do we need a pump system that 100% ties into the firmware of the printer? Why can't we have something that just detects whether resin is high enough or not and automatically turns on? They would make a ton of money if they made something simple and ready made that any printer could use. They could even give it a "smart" mode for printers that DO have supported firmware for other features, but 90% of us only need a refill system to detect the resin level and refill when needed. One advantage of the resin pump system over the gravity fed system is that it should be easier to swap resins mid print without stopping the print assuming the bottle runs out or maybe you want to do something funky with the colors. I also agree with the lid argument. I'd much rather have a door or pair of doors, or at minimum a flip up system that can hold its own weight. A cheap lid cover is okay-ish for smaller printers, but for larger printers it's a royal pain, especially finding somewhere safe to set the lid that likely has some uncured resin on the bottom edges. Lifting it up without touching the print is also a pain. They really didn't think this through unless their only thought was to reduce price.

i have to say while i had no interest in ever getting an mSLA printer rather than a DLP one the low price for this big a size of printer is quite tempting

If you got this for free or long-term loan, don't forget to mark the video as containing a paid promotion. Free/discount items count as compensation. I have a removable-lid Photon Mono M3s. That lack of a lid hinge means it can't be in any sort of cabinet with things above it. It has to have all that clear room above it. For me, it's not the weight, but that particular annoyance. Same annoyance with the USB port way towards the back.

I was quite excited when I heard about the SE. But only having one arm, that lid is a deal breaker for me. I find the lids on the mars a pain (I ended up adding a knob on the top) on the XE it would make it near impossible to remove safely

Just wanted to jump in an give you an idea, for any printer you might want to get. I setup a pulley attached to the ceiling above some of my printers, attached a hook to the lid and a cleat to the bench. So you can pull the lid up vertically, tie it off to the cleat and go about your business. Then just lower it down when you are done. Might be an option for you.

I have multiple Jupiters, when you look at the SE the only differences is the Light & Lens, Cooling Tech, and frame... thats it.. the screen is the exact same model. I will keep the original Jupiter over the SE as I prefer the door and metal frame. And arguably, the Z-Axis upgrade "can" be done by yourself but it would be an undertaking.

Seems a pointless release to me. The resin pump is yet another source of cross contamination unless cleaned thoroughly between resins. Why oh why don't they include cabinet heating????

Personally, .I don't like the lid design on either thir or the phrozen. The phrozen design looks nice but requires you to place the printer a foot away from a wall. They should have gone with the anycubic m3 max approach. I really want a new large format printer because the m3 max ended up being horrible. Extremely slow print times, constant line issues, the rails ant screw began rusting after a month, the motor is weak, and it causes skipping and banging noises on more viscous resins. So many issues I have never experienced with any other resin printer. But the slowness is the killer and the inability to control the led strength. For some reason the feature exists in the other m3 versions, but they removed it from the max.
