This song has a kinda retro feel to it The difference is that, although it's at least slightly subtle, there is a lot of autotune and synth-heavy electronica sounds in this track, quite different to the general "fresh" feel of the 1980s, almost like an modern electronica remix of the general 80s disco-funk genre with R&B heavy retro nostalgia plastered all over it. The "Talkbox" segments were a really nice throwback. And of course, the vocals speak for themselves lmao. I'll say something else: no 80s track would feature the word "Hashtag" in the lyrics lmao but beyond that, even the lyrics wouldn't be out of place in an 80s song. This, above all else, reinforces the retro feel from the track by using the vocalist. Final thing I'd like to add is that the imagery in the video is a lot more fast paced than any 80s track, and the camera shake and stark fluctuation in the video framerate in certain areas certainly is not retro (note the framing and aperture too). The electronica and fast pace with more modern video techniques in the music video, combined with a very real and extremely overt 80s disco funk R&B theme create an extraordinarily unique feel to this track. The whole ridiculously rampant, flamboyant "flood bling" theme is almost passive aggressive with it's uniqueness, blazoning it's energetic vibrance into this track on a whole different level. I'd be really curious to see how much direct input Bruno Mars had with the editing of this music video. If he intended half of this stuff, then I'd say he's a lot more talented than most people give him credit for.
