Model:Cycles provides six tracks of sequencing, each of which control an independent synthesis "Machine." The Machines are different synthesis algorithms tailored toward the creation of specific types of sounds, called Kick, Snare, Metal, Perc, Chord, and Tone. These Machines take much of the guesswork out of the notoriously difficult task of sculpting good FM tones-instead of having do dive into the weeds of FM algorithms and indices, the Machines provide four straightforward parameters each for varying their sound. Each track can use any of these Machines-and since all of the most important parameters can be parameter locked with the integrated sequencer, it becomes possible to create intricate arrangements with rhythmically evolving tones.
Great for everything from clangorous digital rhythms to big, washy chords and warm, growling bass lines, the Model:Cycles presents FM in a more approachable way than ever before.

I have a Digitakt, Rytm, Heat, and A4, yet I still want this. I feel like it's a stripped down blend of Machinedrum and Digitone. For $299 what a steal. It sounds great

fray3dendsofsanity I have an A4, Monomachine, Machinedrum, and 2x Octatrack and I’m also highly considering this box - sounds great and I loved the workflow of the Model: Samples - but felt redundant w/ dual OTs. Great alternative to a Digitone - also looking forward to the battery for portable jams.

@@scalebrain643 Yeah I personally found myself not using the Digitone's polyphony much, as I have better synths (digital and analog) for pads and chords...so this is more interesting to me for those glitchy FM sounds. I keep thinking how massive I could make my drums sound if I stacked the Cycles with the Rytm and sync'd up a digital and analog kick drum from both machines at the same time, or whatever

i've owned almost all elektrons and the model:samples is one of my favs across the board. got rid of them all too except samples.. adding one of these immediately. People under-estimate the power of one knob per funciton

I have Model: Samples. So... yeah I have to have this too. With a few exceptions, you have one knob per function. That translates to much less menu diving and lots more fun. Edited to also say what a killer job you’ve done demoing the unit.

Elektron should concentrate on variations of the Models range. Their other gear (I've owned most of it) has pretty much the same functionality with equal limitations but is way more expensive and ends up getting sold on the second hand market. Please give us a model: control that basically packs the Elektron sequencer in 6 tracks with midi and CV outs in this format and price point. make the chord section of this model a poly midi output. Win.

@@bernardlindeman4791 in some ways more in some ways less. It has all the newer features of the Elektron seq, including probability, and scale per track, ability to nudge things off grid, fills. Has way nicer reverb and delay compared to the silver boxes. Arguably there are more drum algo Configs on the MD, but the ones on MC are no slouch. The MD always sounded a bit thin in the bass frequencies, the MC sounds pretty huge. MD has individual outs and delay per track, which is super useful. MC has velocity sensitive pads. MD has song mode. Anything I'm missing?

I have been fiddling around with the novation circuit for the past years and while I like it, the sounds and possibilities seem somewhat "meh" to me. would this be a good upgrade for a beginner? or rather go with the model:samples?

The Cycles is definitely capable of making whole songs. It does drums, synths and even chords and pads well. The sequencer is powerful and the controls are mostly knob per function so it is pretty easy to program. The Samples is great too, but of course sample instead of synthesis based.

I bought it and unfortunately agree. It needs some kind of subtractive synthesis capabilities or even just a few more FM operators to work with. Also the macro knobs are far more limiting than I hoped and actually make it more confusing in certain ways. The sequencer is great overall but it has very limited ability to undo mistakes.
