As far as sci-fi unobtainiums go, Eezo is indeed one of the most impressively designed.

Better than Star Trek's "Deny-Reality" FTL and Star Wars "Force Magic Cheat" FTL. That's literally the one problem making sci-fi, how to understand a new physics that one understands?

A fascinating thing about Element Zero is that there is a real science hypothetical thing known as "exotic matter" that is theorized to have negative mass, and if proven real could (in theory) make it possible to travel faster than light

Hold on a minute. Element zero isn't a power source. Its just a means to manipulate gravity and mass. It doesn't generate power, it needs power to course through it in order to work.
@Meravokas6 ай бұрын
It's sort of a semantics in the way it's said. Drive cores in Ships use onboard fusion generators to power basic propulsion itself and power the ship in general. However Eezo is generating it's mass manipulating power (Power=Ability in this case. As I said, semantics) from a combination of the electricity driven through it, thus being the catalyst that powers and manipulates the strength of the mass manipulation field. Thus much like fission or fusion power. You need a form of catalyst to create and generate the power that comes from it. Fission creates steam which turns a turbine that transfers kinetic energy into electrical energy. Fusion uses much the same principles but at a constant but much more controllable level with less volatile compounds being created with far shorter half lives than fission based power. Electricity creates the ability to manipulate ezzo's properties manually, but is a radiative source in and of itself that can cause fluctuations without direct human intervention as well as the dangerous radiation when not properly shielded.

@@Meravokas Yes, but near the end he stated that the eezo core powers the stealth systems, which it doesn't.
@maxrander01016 ай бұрын
@@chase2806 no it does however allow said system to be used to an extent that allows it to ignore the mass created by the systems used to create the stealth field it allows the ship to ignore the universe and its forces on the ship that would allow the ship to be detected by those that could normally see the ship if you pay attention to EDi in the 2nd and 3 games she states that the Element Zero within the ship allows her to shunt heat from the ship in such a way that it makes the ship not showup to others without seeing it this was also the case with the SR-1 it just had to be handled by the engineering team which is why Adams says it was a waste of money and could buy alot more ships it was not until it proved its worth while under your chars command that it was seen as worth it which is also the reason the ship is refitted between the end of 2 and 3 the Alliance techs saw how effective the newer system on the SR-2 was that they did not just take her apart and build a new ship plus the added tech that has been during its last mission was seen as something they could not just add to a new ship
@christophergroenewald58474 ай бұрын
Eezo itself is a radioactive material that produces it's own energy, however in order for this energy to be put to practical use, it needs to interact with electricity to manipulate it.

One detail I think is interesting is that Element zero does seem to deteriorate with use. I can’t remember when exactly but there’s a line where EDI says that the EZ in drive core does deteriorate during use.

The creator of the so-called “Premisverse” of Mass Effect fan fiction supposes that Element Zero occupies space-time in a different frame of reference and at a lower vacuum state than the lowest vacuum state possible in our own universe. That could be a major part of an “explanation” of how eezo could have the properties portrayed. It could also explain why it can emit an energy field which can alter the *apparent* mass of objects when a positive or negative electrical charge is applied to it, while the actual masses of objects within the mass effect field remain unchanged. However, if Element Zero is occupying space-time in a different frame of reference, then how would it interact with objects in our own universe? How would the energy field emitted by Element Zero interact with objects in our own universe? These questions remain unanswered. I am not the creator of the Premiseverse. My own postulate is not an answer, but I think that in the Mass Effect universe, eezo somehow allows for normal matter within the field it can emit to become very much *like a seed for crystalline precipitation* -- if my guess is right, then while the mass effect field is turned on, the affected normal matter can accrete a new kind of virtual mass (positive or negative). This new virtual mass is what would then allow objects to be manipulated in ways impossible with normal matter alone. My idea does offer an intriguing “explanation" for one fascinating aspect of the Mass Effect universe -- how it is that a mass effect field can allow for objects to accelerate or decelerate independently of their actual mass? My possible “explanation” seems to remain consistent with established lore.

Well Mass effect fields should be able to trap plasma so maybe plasma weapons? Alternatively possible upgrade to halo MAC guns faster but smaller rounds like a 60kilo round going 3000kms would hit at 64 kilotons instead of a 600ton round at 30kms frankly if you can fire 600t to 3000t rounds they ought to be able to swap the math around to even have a frigate fire a dreadnoughesq round then UNSC ships have better range and fire power by nature of Rounds per minute

It's a form of exotic matter that basically fixes everything modern science can't acomplish. It's very useful from a worldbuilding standpoint, allows you to spend less time trying to explain the sicence behind your tech and more time developing characters and plot. But realistically It's magic. I seriously doubt anything like Eezo is possible under the limitation of this universe's laws of physics. It's literally too good to be true.

At least mass effect is consistent, unlike halo. Additionally, everything mass effect fields can do, halo a-grav can do the same, if not better, since while mass effect fields are a well established concept in mass effect with clearly defined rules and limitations, halo a-grav just does whatever is plot convenient (the definition of a plot device).
