'Elementary' stars Jonny Lee Miller as detective Sherlock Holmes and Lucy Liu as Dr. Joan Watson in a modern-day drama about a crime solving duo that cracks the NYPD's most impossible cases. This fall, only CBS!

I think bbc fans dont like this because the actor doesnt feel like sherlock holmes and more like moriarty, i think the serie is fine, but i prefer the bbc version, also i have a feeling that they made watson a women because they wanted them to be in a relationship, i could be completely wrong because i havent watched it or will watch it.
@celia18886 жыл бұрын
shrisja no They never wanted that. They've stated since the very beginning that Sherlock and Joan wouldn't get together. Also despite some weird tweaks here and there (non Lesbian Irene Adler bothered me but she trats sex like a job so... ) it's much more faithful to the atmosphere of the books (also remember that in the books Sherlock was pretty much hooked on opium so it did alter his behavior compared to someone who'd have done rehab). It also gives the best version of Watson as a partner rather than a sidekick (while the 1940's movies have one of my favorite version of Holmes they really started the mainstream trend of having Watson be swept by a Holmes' shaped hurricane). While not every episode is amazing, it still has a nice overall quality. Bonus point : Holme's written like a person. An amazingly intelligent one but a person nonetheless. BBC's Sherlock tend to avoid explaining the thought process because "of course Sherlock's so much more intelligent you could never completely understan" so you have to focus on what's next to that which is mostly the Jon/Sherlock friendship which i personally didn't find interesting because while Sherlock clearly loves Watson there is a power imbalance between the two. Also Elementary holds its Sherlock accountable for being an Ass, no matter how much of a genius he is. The main cast forces him to respect them by their words and actions (the evolution of Joan and Detective Bell in that regard is impressive), whereas in the BBC version, while modt of the characters complain a bit they still let him get away with almost everything. So it really depends on what you're looking for in a show. As far as a Sherlock Holmes adaptation goes I chose Elementary. If you want a frienship/romantic drama commedy type of series then Sherlock's the best option

I haven't seen such charisma in years. Lucy Liu is picture perfect too. The dialogue is knife edge. The plot lines that have to come into a 43 minute window are fleshed out with the character development that make this my favourite show. I don't compare the two shows (I like the other one also).

Seriously this is excellent! I love how Joan and Sherlock's painful backstories relate to each other -- her lost medical license and his addiction, the way they're both dealing with the stress and shame of their situations and how that creates conflict between them but also the note of possibility that they will come to understand each other and find purpose in their shared investigative work.

Both Sherlock and Watson are portrayed fantastically and it has fast become my favourite show, I just wish it to have the recognition it deserves. Also, everyone is complaining this isn't like the BBC Sherlock. Why would you want to watch the same thing? I feel this show is a refreshing change of pace, and I am a fan of both BBC and CBS, regardless of the differences of it. The problem with CBS and BBC is that if CBS made the show like BBC's, everyone would complain about how similar it was, but everyone is complaining because it's different. the BBC does not own Sherlock Holmes and anyone has the right to adapt it however they wish. Frankly as someone who has seen both modern adaptations and has read the ACD novels this is a much more successful interpretation in my opinion. Half the comments on here are giving into prejudice based on some trivial detail or another (like Joan's gender and ethnicity? Seriously?) without having given it a chance.

I admit I dismissed this show when it first came out as just another attempt at a unique telling of Sherlock Holmes but I didn't give it the credit it deserves. Johnny Miller not only picked a winner involving himself with the script for this story, but he does a wonderful job in holding your attention with his pensive, mysterious, eccentric but brilliant investigator who is recovering from substance addiction and yet is human enough to be duped by a lover with a dark heart. I came away with a completely new appreciation for Miller and can only surmise he picked other roles which would keep in the public eye and that were unworthy of his talent. Lucy Liu blew me away as Watson. Watson is a doctor, we know this already but a doctor with a distraught conscience? What a brilliant stroke of storytelling genius. We are kept in suspense wondering if the doctor turned sobriety councillor will commit to a life of consultant investigator full time and become the exact opposite of the dithering blundering Watson we all know and love, but with a caring considering nature which allows her to empathise with the victims she and Holmes comes in contact with. Holmes eccentric nature makes him emotionally unavailable so putting Watson in the mix with her Florence Nightingale aura is the yin to Holmes yang and allows them to function well as a team. Holmes brilliance holds the viewer in suspence in anticipation of the who's who of the who dunnit, and Watson allows you to become emotional invested with the outcome of the story. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but this show gives insight into the back story of each character even Moriarty's back story eventually that surpasses even the black and white original films. So hurry up and watch it folks, we don't have a moment to lose!!

Okay, all of you need to stop with the hate comments. I have seen both this and the BBC version. You all need to just chill. I like both versions. I was skeptical when I first started watching this, but it is AMAZING! If you don't like how different it is, just remember that they are two very different shows. If you need even more of an incentive, just think of this of an "after Sherlock on BBC." Jonny is a fabulous Sherlock because he brings a more human nature to the character. Lucy stands up more to what he does and says, which makes their relationship different. Just be opened minded about it and don't want to, just don't comment. :)

I didn't know there was this show...wow... But I have to say, when it comes to Sherlock Holmes because it is such amazing character, BBC did the best job with Cumberbatch as Sherlock Although this one is a complete off, it looks so different in terms of plot. It's quite interesting. But I think you don't have to use Sherlock in the name. It could be anyone else. It feels like a fanfiction of Sherlock Holmes. That's my opinion. But it still looks interesting

Having read the books, this Sherlock adaptation feels a lot more like him. While the first BBC season tried to adapt some plots, they wrote a very caricatural version of the cast, whereas Elementary based its characters on the "why", the reasons behind what they did. That's a good point. Plus, each episode of "Sherlock" is about half an hour longer than a regular tv episode. It's just that "Sherlock" is such a good show that I wish it had more than 3 episodes per season (especially since, so far, both seasons have ended with these incredibly suspenseful cliffhangers, and there's such a long hiatus between seasons).

actually, gregson is the OTHER detective inspector in the book. there are three most known DIs that sherlock worked with. gregson was one of them other than lestrade. look it up. they even mention it in the making of bbc sherlock that they had no first name for lestrade in the book.

Sherlock character seems a lot like Patrick Jane's character (in the Mentalist). The portrayal is very similar. I've seen every episode of The Mentalist, for this reason I deem it pointless to watch this. Further it's imperative to note that this is newer than The Mentalist, so is it intentionally akin to The Mentalist?

I'm a BBC Sherlock fan too. You can say whatever you want, but people also have the right to disagree. Also, there's actually a world outside of BBC Sherlock called the Sherlock Holmes fandom. The one where Sherlock Holmes has been around for about 100+ years. So don't watch this if you don't want to. Bash on it if you don't like it. But don't expect anyone (especially us "Americans") to not disagree with you when we disagree with you.

The thing that I am most worried about with this adaptation is the fact that Watson is not an ex-army doctor, she is a discredited surgeon. In the original novels and stories, the fact that Watson had been in the army, shot in the shoulder, and sent home played a rather large role in his character development. I am not opposed to a gender-swap, because if it's done right, it can work beautifully. I'm just afraid that CBS saw the success of "Sherlock" and thought, hey. We can do that too.

"Do you believe in love at first sight?" ~ Molly Hooper's blog 28th January. Did the writers think we wouldn't notice these things? There are just so many little details like this that they've copied, it's as if they're just dodging copyright legally, but it doesn't fool the audience.

I watch quite a lot of CBS shows, so I'm going to try to stay positive about this show. It has some potential.

You can never get anything right with Sherlock Holmes adaptions. I feel this will do very good and the reason for the fact that they transition him from London to New York. So it's not really a begining story but more of picking up in the middle of his life. The actor is british, even the show House did extremly well. You cant satisfy everyone because people place there standards to high and when it doesn't meet them they feel let down. Excited and can't wait
