Great video, very informative! Was really hoping to hear if you can tell the difference between the bulbs you have laid out in the beginning and end. Can you tell the variaty by the bulb?

Love the video but it leaves me with so many questions about care. I want more of your expertise info. ❤

Thank you so much! I didn't know what side was up, now I gotta go dig up my tubers and see if I put them in right ( :

Don't worry. Upside down they will find their way to the surface. It will take longer, but they will get there.

We planted ours upside down-it was our first elephant ear, and I hadn’t yet googled about them. After 2 months and nothing (started it in a warm garage), we dug it up so we could use the pot for something else and discovered it was sprouting-from the lower half. They were curved upwards. We re-buried it, and the shoots finally emerged. I wonder if I should rectify its orientation next season.

Are these Alocasia Elephant Ears or Colocasia Elephant Ears?

Omg those corms are huge!

YES! I've never seen them get so big. They certainly aren't from here (chilly old England), and must have grown in some toasty American state.

How do you care for them? What happens when they turn to mush during the winter months and what do you do with them. Mine are producing babies but total white bucket of soup. What to do at end of summer when they grow extremely large in 1 season.

Never store elephant ears in plastic. They need good air circulation when out of the ground. Remove from the garden after several days of no rain. Leave to further dry outside. Store in paper bags, wooden crates or shelves where there is good air circulation. If you want, dust with Copper Fungicide powder before storing. Your elephant ears are getting fungus.

I’m growing elephant ears. I live in AL. I failed to get a strong leaf last year. I’m trying again this year. I’m expecting a lead in 4-6 weeks but I’m watering daily. I’m sitting it in the sun daily for a few hours. I used miracle grown potting soil. I purchased a large pot. I made fertilizer water with coffee grinds & baking soda. I’m new to plants 2 years in… any advice?

Stop the coffee ground and baking soda. This may create a highly acidic soil. Keep watering and don't fertilize until they sprout, then write to me again.

@@harvestinghistoryllc3161 The idea of that tuber is to store starch and sustenance to get the plant going again after any period of rest, so it is full of goodness - the reason humans get so much fuel from them as a vegetable. I would wait until it's produced a good crop of roots before trying to feed it, and then use either a proprietary feed for greenery (ie one with lots of nitrogen) or alternatively well-rotted manure or washed, rotted seaweed.

Hi! I live in Alabama. I just planted 4 elephant ears today, each in a large container. The information on each were that they are ‘big leaf green’ colocasia variety. In the Winter can I just bring these inside my home and let them still be beautiful? (All as my pets)!! 😂. I have always wanted one and now I have 4 !! Thank you! 😊

In the botanical world, the accepted term for alocasia / colocasia and xanthosoma is tubers, not bulbs, not corms - tubers
