Day 361 of 400: Impodimo Safari Lodge...spinning around the world. We were lounging around the pool at our lodge and a herd of elephant came up to drink from the swimming pool. Very Cool...

Thank you for not startling them or speak loudly to irritate them. That was nice that you whispered showing some respect. The elephants normally love to jump in the water and roll over. But, they are so smart they know this place belongs to someone with instinct, and the way they behave is like, hey this is someone else's place and just drink a little and not make a mess. How intelligent.

That was unbridled fear lol..

@Anna K You don't get it. It's a show of respect to whisper. It has nothing to do with elephants having big ears or how sensitive they are to hearing.
@iangoldsworthy20565 жыл бұрын
No sudden movements or noises. Yes they don't mind the wildlife callings but a noise they find unfamiliar they see as a threat.

I love how very respectful you are towards the elephants in their presence. I wish more people who come to see animals in their natural habitat have that same courtesy as you guys. Plus Africa has gotta be incredible to see.

Who knew Elephants had such excellent pool manners. No running, pushing or shoving. Everyone politely waiting their turn. Though they could have hogged the whole pool they thoughtfully only used a small section and were careful to keep splashing to discreet minimum. They would be the ideal non-chlorinated pool party guests ...............until you got the water bill.

Every time I see a video of elephants drinking from the pool I'm struck by what perfect guests they always are. No trumpeting, no shoving, no intimidating, no stepping on the boards and breaking them to bits, no rampaging through the huts and destroying everything. Nope. Perfect guests. And that is one of the deadliest animals on the planet...

Check out the video of the bull elephant that came to lunch at the Mana Pool camp. They are not always "perfect guests".

Its not just ornaments it is also used in healing medicines. That's why its so difficult to trace the origin of source it gets shipped too. Also the sellers of the medicines don't like to be identified either. A few free lance journalists have felt.the wrath from it.

Save all the animals that certain terrible human want to exploit. Don't buy anything from China. Beware of what you buy from Africa. Leave the wild animals alone. We are all much better off with them being free in their natural setting. Seeing videos of wild animals in their natural habitat is enough for me.

If that happened to me while I was chillin and enjoying my place, i would probably cry a bucket. I've always wanted to witness Elephants in their own natural habitat doing whatever it is they do. And its such a beautiful moment to witness these wonderful gentle creatures enjoying their water :)) this is why I really want to go on a Safari lodge and just be one with nature.

Not exactly gentle. Elephants in a zoo are trained to interact with humans, but in the wild, they can charge anyone that pisses them off. I’ve seen videos where wild elephants have charged safari vehicles and flipped over cars and trucks. They are very strong and powerful.

This place makes their money providing guest an upclose look at elephants in the neighborhood. When you arrive you are told that you may get a visit from an elephant wanting a drink of your pool. You are told to not make sharp movements or loud noises. The pools are kept up in a way that elephants who regularly visit them will not be made it.

Here's my question. When an elephant is sucking water into its trunk, how does he know when to stop? How far up does the water go? Yeah, yeah, yaaah, I know this is a weird line of thought but I always think about this question. Can an elephant sense the progression of the water as he draws it up into his trunk? I'm gonna say, YES. OK, that aside, the elephant is an very very strange lifeform. It can't run. It is the biggest land animal. It has ears the size of a satellite dish. Its nose is up to six feet long. It is as big as a cabin. It is a tranquil vegetarian. It is an delight.
