I doubt the hippo would’ve been fast enough or agile enough to catch any of them if it wanted to, the dogs wouldn’t do very much damage to the hippo but they don’t need to since hippos have poor stamina and sensitive skin meaning they overheat really quickly.

Yeah, hippo was in no real danger. We're talking about a 2-ton tank with bone-crushing jaws and a hide so thick that even lions would have a hard time bitting through it. A pack of 90lb pooches wasn't any sort of threat to it. I'm not sure what the dogs were trying to accomplish? They are more than smart enough to know what prey animals they can and can't bring down.

Don't underestimate a pack of wild dogs. The biggest of predators stay out of the way of a pack (including leopards and lions). Wild dogs are very intelligent and can coordinate as a pack and are therefore extremely dangerous.

More like don’t underestimate hippos, it was provoked but not threatened. It knew if necessary it could have escaped easily to the water side, the hippo was just standing its ground. Dogs are nothing to hippos, it takes a lot of lions to threaten just one hippo.
