Missed opportunity to have a subwoofer output and bass management!

Most of the studio monitors subs have outputs that go to the sub first, and a high pass signal is sent to the desktop monitors. This would see that as a single speaker which it could then EQ.

I'm glad that someone finally did a review on ARC. I think the next step up from it is the MiniDSP Flex with Dirac, but after that your def looking at trinnov and I don't think that's for a majority of ppl

Finally a very clear explanation of the Arc Studio. I bought it, a month ago, running Mackie's HR824 MK1 for a long time. Still love them. But after seeing some reviews (never bought the Sonar works correction, also nice, maybe more accurate, but had to use it as a plugin on my listen bus) And you fill in the blanks about, what are my monitors capable of, and what do I really want to hear from those monitors. After seeing your video, I'll start over again, to get the "right" measurements. And, I'm 60 years old, have a nice home studio with a lot of gear. I like mixing and making songs, etc. But I'm sure, at my age, I can't really trust my ears anymore, especially in the high end. So That's why I decided to buy "a solution" to hear the difference. And there is a lot with the ARC Studio. And again, well explained, and going to dive some deeper in it, and measure again.

I'm glad you found it useful. We will all experience high frequency hearing loss eventually if we're lucky enough to get to that age when that happens, but remember that we become accustomed to that. That's how we hear the real world. A good calibration should not try to compensate for that. Accuracy is still the reference.

Since this came out, I've wondered how it compares to SoundID. I like not needing another piece of hardware to have the same functionality for sure and of course the ability to input my own parametric EQs, etc.

Thanks for this review, though I would have expected to at least have seen a before / after measurement with the correction off vs on to get an idea of real world results. I use sonarworks and I believe that system is better than ARC, I'll be curious to know what you think of it when you try it out.

How does this compare with REW?

Completely different. REW is a tool for analyzing acoustic characteristics of speakers. This is an auto-calibration tool.

@@joentell something like that. My idea was having the arc outputting to speakers while having the source outputting to a sub and applying a downwards slope/ rolling off the speakers while low passing the sub, creating a crossover point.

@@JoseFerreira-zb7wh you could make it do that, but I don't know if it's the best way, but it could work. If latency isn't a big issue, maybe a MiniDSP would be a better solution. It's made to do that with the 4 outputs.

I got a soundID with my audient interface. What a nightmare that software is--like a virus but worse. It keeps popping up when you don't want it and isnt there when you do. Finally had to do a hard delete of every trace of that software on my mac and will just go with the Arc4--hardware for the win!
