What you are doing is pretty interesting! I’ve been tuning sound systems for 15 years. PA systems professionally and my budget systems at home. I want to look into your product more because any time you tune a system, at the end of the day, it has to create an incredible experience. Smaart, earthworks mic, and a chart on the screen still can never tell you what sounds great. It helps speed up the process greatly and understand the room average, but the information it doesn’t give you is the key to creating a nice sound. It’s all about fine tuning the crossovers, delays, volumes, then EQ by ear. Some speakers with their phase characteristics or room reflections - you can take an EQ dip out and suck the dynamics out of the subwoofers for example. Or, maybe the system measures perfectly well, but it doesn’t suck you into the experience. All this has to still be done by ear. I can tune a full system well at this point by ear, but measuring does speed it up a lot and gives more accuracy. So, discovering what the particular room should sound like sounds like a good idea. It’s true some rooms you reach the understanding that you’re done because of the room. It usually takes me a couple hrs to dial in my home theater then I play with it for two more days to see if different techniques help as I’m using it. So anyway, I’m going to look into this.
@joentell10 ай бұрын
I am interested in seeing it used in various situations. I like the way you said it, where you tune the sound to the limitations of the room itself. I would add that it's also the limitations based on the listening position(s), speaker placement and speaker characteristics as well. This is not a replacement for Smaart or any of the dual FFT analyzers, since you still have to figure out phase, timing, crossovers, and levels. It's designed to do one thing particularly well, and that's to determine the optimal target curve(s).

Is there a review for the final version with REW meausments before and after? The product page doesn't provide much info nor a toturial for using the app with Audyssey or other RC platforms. Do you still need the calibration tool Blue ray or can the final version generate test tones? Also, I think for a planned and not very cheap app, it should at least be able to generate a day file you could load into the Audyssey based AVR or even self-connect to the AVR and loading the cuves/filters. Thanks

Looking to purchase Joe. I've got multeqx and Dirac Live bass control multi sub on my Denon 3800. Would I be able to measure once and create two separate exports? For Dirac, do you have more than one export type? Also, how do you recommend post eq level adjustments with Dirac Live Bass Control. In Denon, everything is locked out. Absolutely excited for this Joe! Thank you
@joentell10 ай бұрын
Yes, you can export using different EQ methods without having to remeasure. I don't understand why they lock you out of something as basic as levels after using Dirac. That's how it worked on my NAD T778 as well and I thought it was odd. I didn't know it was like that on Denon also. On this Monolith HTP-1, I can change levels and even add PEQ before or after Dirac. I can mess with delays after also. If you're stuck with levels, I could carefully adjust gains equally on the various subs making sure not to change the relative levels. We've worked on making sure that levels are set properly with the curves we create. As long as Dirac is setting the level of the mains equal to the subs (i.e. if you used a flat target they would align) then the curve we apply will set the proper bass level automatically.

You could use the option menu when watching a movie. That’s not locked.

@joentell thanks Joe. I have 4 subs as well. My current bass control implementation does set the mains and subs with the same target curve. I like a rise in the bass so it isn't flat. I'm curious as to how you could help me here. I can also use mult eqx but bass control makes my subs sound impactful. Something I'll struggle to replicate with multeqx

I have Onkyo's txrz50. And it does have direct live Full bandwidth but that cancels out a lot of other features in this receiver. So I've been using Onkyo Accu EQ instead. I've also been using the Klipsch mode in this receiver that it offers. Watching your video here I did not see Accu EQ in the list of systems that magic beans works with. My question is would magic beans work with Accu eq? Oh and by the way, Accu EQ now uses a 15 band graphic equalizer rather than peq like they used to.
@joentell9 ай бұрын
15 band GEQ is an odd number. We offer 10-band and 31-band graphic EQ. You can always look at the target curve in REW and look at the corresponding dB for each frequency of the graphic EQ.

Why does the consumer version not include rew file access?
@joentell10 ай бұрын
Most consumers just want the optimal target curves to import into their room correction software. Pros and advanced users will want to see each measurement and the correction filters to analyze potential issues with the speakers, signal chain, room response, and listening positions. Often, the hardest thing is to make something simple. One of things we focused on is giving the user confidence that what they're doing is right. I feel like that's lacking in some other calibration software. So, that's part of it. The pros and advanced users know who they are, and for them, the features of Pro and the additional cost makes sense. There will always be potential customers who will want all of the Pro features at the Standard price (or lower) and we will not meet their specific expectations of cost/features. But we put a lot of thought into it, and that's the choice we made.

After the EQ is implemented on the receiver using true target, do I need to change the speaker crossover settings back to 80hz or keep all the speakers set to large?
@joentell10 ай бұрын
You should set the crossovers back after. We only set them to Large for the measurements. Then use the Post-EQ Sub Align feature to make sure your sub is aligned in level.

Hey Joe my setup is 9.2.4 which package am I purchasing? I currently have the Marantz 8805?
@joentell9 ай бұрын
It depends on whether you really want to dig in and analyze the measurements for each speaker, or if you simply want the True Target curve response to import into your Marantz. The benefit to the Pro version, is you can export all your measurements into REW for further analysis. This often can lead to you seeing ways you can improve your sound by physical means of moving your speakers, adjusting their aim, their placement, or whether you need sound panels in certain locations. It also helps to verify that your measurements are consistent, as anomalies in identical speakers could mean a measurement error or possibly an issue with your components.

Hi, I have an Integra Drx 3.4 configured in 5.1.2 and 2 subs connected to it through a Minidsp 2x4HD. Will your app help me calibrate the subs and the rest of the speakers? Will I have to do 2 calibrations separately and then use Dirac?
@joentell10 ай бұрын
If you want to calibrate multiple subs, I would recommend either MSO (multi-sub optimizer) or Dirac Live Bass Control if your AVR supports it. This is made to create a custom target curve that affects the overall tonal balance of your system.

The app determines the target curve for specific channels, so even if you have 8 subwoofers connected to the LFE/Bass management channel, the app will create a correction for that one channel that they are all connected to.

@joentell10 ай бұрын
I've talked with the folks at Trinnov. They currently don't have an easy way to import a user-defined custom target curve from a file. You can only import curves drawn in manually on a Trinnov. They also have PEQ, but the values would have to be entered manually which is time consuming and allows lots of room for error.
