I did the same thing years ago (before brackets were available) using only tie wraps and a couple drilled holes in the fender, cost me a total of 50 cents and added 2 grams of weight. I've had this set up on 2 T-dubs for many years and thousands of off road miles with 0 issues. I am a self admitted cheap ass however.

I'm leaning like your wife and not a fan. Of the three (3), I think the Bradley spacer kit looks the best. Gives you the original form and better function. The TW200, IMO, isn't a full purpose Dirt Bike, so the high fender just looks weird. I also have thought of the TW200 as a "off spring" of the Enduro's of the early 70's. They had low front fenders at first and after they switched to the high fenders in the mid 70's, it just wasn't the same. This is an interesting comparison.

The Bradley kit is a pretty simple setup for sure. This one, part of me is leaning one way and the other part is liking it. I would like to see how well it does.

I want to do a variation of this to mine. I want to raise the existing fender a bit, but I want to cut the front portion off so only the rear side remains, this prevents mud from being thrown up into my engine cooling fins (a far more important consideration than mud between the tire and the fender). Then I want to put the high fender kit on but eliminate the rear portion of the fender as it serves no purpose in this case. So you wind up with a lower fender that prevents mud and dirt getting up into your engine cooling fins, but you also have an upper fender that prevents water and debris front being thrown up in the air ahead of you during a ride.

I have seen the slip fender concept on some other bikes and I couldn't figure out why they would do such a goofy looking setup. Now I know and it makes sense!

Matt, how does the high effect dirt, mud and water flying into the front of the engine? Also, what about water while driving on wet roads when raining? I really love the look of the high fender but curious as to those questions!
@MOBStreet834 ай бұрын
Those are great questions. It blocks it from hitting you, but all of that hits everything else up front creating more of a mess on the front of the engine, but allows the tire to continue to move within muddier areas so it doesn't jam the wheel into the fender.

Isn't that fender mounting that is in the original location also a fork brace? I remember many years ago installing fork braces to strengthen the forks. It did improve the handling.
@MOBStreet836 ай бұрын
This is something I want to find out. Some say it is, others say it is so thin it wouldn't do much at all.
@BuilderofRat6 ай бұрын
@@MOBStreet83 Think about it this way, there are much cheaper ways of attaching a fender. Yamaha spent a lot of money designing that mount. I don't know for sure, but that mount would certainly hurt your high fender mod. Since I do not plan on riding in the mud, I think that I will pass. The high fender does look good though. My favorite mod on mine is the rear disc brake mod. I love it. It gives more control for sure, at least it does for me.
@gregorygroves19834 ай бұрын
No! Its stamped sheet steel.
@BuilderofRat4 ай бұрын
@@gregorygroves1983 Stamped sheet metal can be quite strong. The curves and bends will be quite resistant to any kind of twisting motion. Look at the way that this piece is made. It is much longer and wider than would be required if it was just a fender support. On my older dirt bikes, the fork brace would not allow the forks to twist, thereby making for a more predictable action and not allowing the forks to twist when they were subjected to violent up and down compression and rebound. All that I remember is that the ride when going through rough terrain was more predictable. I do not ride aggressively any more. My old bones complain, sometimes for days afterward. LOL
@frankiejamesrail15796 ай бұрын

Now, this is something I have heard mixed feelings on. Does it, and I am asking in all honesty here, make a difference on the TW? I honestly don't know, but I would love to get some insight on it.
@southlakeowendrive6 ай бұрын
@@MOBStreet83 Grab that bracket with both hands and twist it, then try to tell me that it's a fork brace and not just a fender holder. I settled this argument among friends when I grabbed a uninstalled bracket then bent it badly with my bare hands, it's not a fork brace of any kind.
@gregorygroves19834 ай бұрын
That thing is like a tin can, its not a fork brace, no idea where that thought came from, but the replacement bracket from Tusk is even stronger.
