In this episode I talk about the Bear Weather Rest. I just wasn’t getting perfect arrow flight by shooting off the shelf, even with a raised bump. I decided to try the Weather Rest and the results are amazing! If you’re having tuning issues, it’s worth a try. Please like share and subscribe. Also check out the following Amazon affiliate links to check out this bow and rest for yourself!

I like the Hoyt Super rest.... $2.50 each.... very durable ...very cheap... very good arrow flight... I put 1 on my Bear Ausable. Plan to get more

I had exactly the same problem. I tried other rests, but they didn't seem to work. The Bear rest is excellent. Thank you sooo much.

This actually addresses another issue I have on my Bear Black Bear. There is no clear stop from the grip to the shelf. I grip high (handgun habit) and a feather sliced my finger like a razor blade. I have a similar plastic rest on another bow, so maybe this will work to protect my hand. Thanks.

Great you found a solution, and function should take priority over form, but part of the appeal of the 59 Kodiak is the classic turkey feather rest and broad leather strike plate. Aesthetically (I've never handled them) what difference remains between Super Kodiak and 59 Kodiak? The SK has a curved shelf (functional improvement), and the 59 K has the purple heartwood. I'm just not sure that's worth $130. Perhaps they feel very different, which matters more anyway. There's no point to a bow, even a beautiful one, if it doesn't shoot well. However, if the mods undue all that made it unique, what's the point? Thanks for the video.

That is my next bow.... screw the """ $1200 ''"" Customs. I've purchased the 50th ann. take down... on back order... can't wait for it to arrive. I shoot the AuSable 64" longbow.... a excellent bow. Everything else I have will go..... moth ball rack. I will Sport the Bear Bows !!! Good Video !

Great Video, thanks! I'm about to put the weather rest on my Ben Pearson Cougar (from 1964-65). Did you just center it? That's what it looks like. I didn't know if it mattered where is was positioned horizontally. Thanks again

I put it straight above the deepest part of the grip.

Yes sir, I used to have that problem shooting off of the shelf. I went to smaller feathers and that helped. Then I started shooting cock feather and in. That changed everything. The lower hen feather will alway hit the shelf. Flip the arrow 180 both hen feathers are clear of the bow and if your arrows have the right spine the cock will clear too.

After seeing this demonstration, I got my weather rest that's been in a drawer for nearly 10 years to install onto my '57 Grizzly. The ONLY problem seems to be that the 'arm' part of the rest doesn't open fully like yours ( I wish I could show a picture). My Kodiak Magnum, and Kodiak Hunter have the brush rest which I like. Do you think the brush and weather rests aren't much different and maybe just get a brush rest for the '57 Grizzly?

I personally hate the feather rests that come on the ‘59 Kodiak. But it accomplishes the same goal. A forgiving (cushioned) rest with minimal contact. I just think they’re noisy when drawing. If you like that type of rest I say go for it. It’s your preference

How well does it perform with non-feather vanes?

Don’t know. Only shot with feathers and trad vanes.

I bought one specifically so I could start shooting arrows with plastic vanes instead of feathers. I got tired of losing or damaging expensive arrows. They work great with the Bear Weather Rest!!! I know you can't shoot them off the shelf, but with the rest the fly great!!! 👊

How close to the rug rest do I install the bear bear weather rest? Thank you

I put the weather rest as far down as it goes. Some people will also cut down the curved bottom of the weather rest in order to get the rest’s arm as low as it will go.

Have you ever seen or know of a really old and "cheap" recurve bow called a ' SHIM BO" ? Its well made but very cheap.

Seth Krumnow that’s a Selway strap on model with the more affordable plastic hood sold through 3 Rivers Archery. I love it.

Hey, Bro... Curious if you are shooting 3 under or split finger? I have the same nock high issue with my K59. I believe it may be a timing/tiller issue when shooting 3 under.
@bowhuntingsoul2149
@bowhuntingsoul2149 5 жыл бұрын
3-under for me! I think it's a function of the narrow, flat shelf. The Weather Rest did wonders for arrow flight. Night and day. No real evidence, but I've heard that the difference in split-finger vs. 3-under as far as tiller goes is inconsequential. As in, it exists, but the difference is almost negligible to mere mortals. Try the Weather Rest. You'll probably like it.

I shot split finger or did well still do I am just getting back into it. The last time I shot a recurve was 25 or so year ago.

theolithic71, I had a nock high BIG problem on my 59k, and after 3 under and after nothing I did fixed the "high" problem I tried split finger and it completely corrected the issue. Down side is I'm not really wanting to go back to shooting split finger.
