(5-11-2015) These are the amazing gearless traction elevator machines made by ThyssenKrupp elevator which propel the fastest passenger elevators in North America at 2000 FPM. A HUGE thanks to ThyssenKrupp elevator for bringing me to see these amazing machines. This was one of the most amazing opportunities I have ever had!!

That's HUGE!!! Wow! And see all the individual fans around the machine on the right! Amazing! Glad you asked about that compressor unit, as that question was on my lips!

Andrew that looks amazing! That must’ve been really cool being in the machine room of the fastest elevator in North America, I can’t believe those go 2000fpm. That’s crazy! ThyssenKrupp Elevator has really outdone themselves with this set of elevators, not just the video presentation inside the elevator but the technology and all of the mechanics that go into it are just amazing!

Wow impressive. I retired from TKE a few years ago and this little tour was impressive. Didn’t know TK could produce such a beautiful monster machine. 2000fpm. Incredible.

those machines are massive, smaller in size than the gear-less machines in the WTC towers 2,000 FPM very impressive. How big are the motors as to HP?
@MadMotorman

Really cool video. Those machines are huge. If this is 1 WTC, I’ve always been curious about the elevator machinery in such a tall building. Only time I rode elevators at the WTC was in the original 1 WTC. There was a video on here of the original machine rooms and I was amazed. This was really cool, thanks for sharing. And nice elevator parts collection you have there.

Are the disc brakes actually used to decelerate the spool? or is that motor resistance to slow down, but discs to stop and hold?
@marktomlinson3448
@marktomlinson3448 8 ай бұрын
I am surprised no one has answered this yet. All slowdown right to the final stop is controlled electronically with solid state drives. The brakes only apply after the final stop.

For some reason when I speed tested one of the lifts on my phone for the down trip the number said *616* meters per minute at one point. And the speed shown on my phone at it's fastest was 627 meters per minute! AAAAAAHHHHHH! These travel a height of 394 meters at 615 meters per minute... I conducted the speed test by leaning my phone against the lift wall

2,000 FPM I'd expect to find a gear-less machine this huge in the glass tower 135 floors high. The motor is probably over 100 HP 480 VAC draws some serious FLA

The DC drive motors for the large shuttle elevators (the biggest ones) in the original WTC were over 300 HP. The 3-phase 480V motors for the MG sets (that were later replaced by SCR drives) were 400HP.

So much for building security.....I'd have much rather seen the old 339s in action...VVVF is so boring compared to old DC traction. My dear deceased friend Paul at Dover showed me machines long before the KZbin Craze. I just don't have the ego.
