3 steps: -who are you & what u do -why should they care? (sth interesting/ accomplishment) -what do you want from this? (sound ambitious & u want a challenge/stretch) tip: -be specific! (e.g. if you are a "recruiter", say you are a "recruiter w/ start-up") -finish strong by sounding ambitious!! >:) -practice beforehand!

if I were the interviewer I would rather want some quiet time in the elevator. I feel most interviewers would feel the same. Is this elevator pitch thing really effective?

Great video - very informative. I always tell people to talk about: 1. Your relevant past (don't go into your entire childhood). If it's a marketing gig, talk about your college studies and that internship or project you've been working on. 2. How that past has led to your interest in this position. Be specific about why it's such a great fit for you. 3. How you plan to help the company and be successful in this role. Make sure you're knowledgeable on the topic! It always helps to talk with people in the industry first. Always keep your answer to 3 minutes max! No one wants to hear someone drone on and on about themselves, especially at the beginning of an interview. Keep it as conversational as possible.

Thank you so much ! I am a current job seeker during a lockdown in Australia . I have to prepare a 5 minute video presentation to hiring managers and tell them , why I am the best candidate for a workshop facilitator presenter role , and address 7 selection criteria points in the 5 minutes . Its my first time to do this on camera and I did a practice run last night , it ran for 9 .5 minutes ,.

As a hiring manager for most of my ~25 yrs I suggest leading with what you have to offer and how you see helping them. Don't focus on you. This means you should know about the company and try to find out about those that might be hiring you. I look for those that are going to help lead regardless of their position. I want to learn from those that I hire and those that I didn't. While it is important to talk about yourself SET THE TONE by talking about you in terms of them. Interviewing is like dating and what you promote is often what you attract.

This video is amazing and it really re-defined my interview strategy, but.... I failed miserably in its execution and abandoned it immediately. Fortunately, I've always had a knack for sales and gab, but I attended a Job Fair and the recruiters all just said hi and went silent or just started talking about their company so when I attempted to morph my elevator speech into a conversation where but it wasn't requested it felt off. Hopefully, I still get to the interview phase where I can put some of these to better use. Thanks!

It seems like "tell me about yourself" and an elevator pitch are two different deliveries. One is intended for interviews. I wouldn't want to give my elevator pitch at an interview, as elevator pitches are designed for the layman, whereas telling an interview about yourself should be more technical.

Elevator Pitch: The art of making a quick sales pitch to someone who is on an elevator with you. For true sales pros, the elevator pitch is much shorter, as when you are pitching the value of your worthless life to God as you are falling down an elevator shaft. from Dr. Mezmer’s Dictionary of Bad Psychology, at doctormezmer.com
