One of these elevator service tools is expired and needs to be sent in for reboot while the other tool is not expired.
The older Montgomery Elevator Service tool had a broken pin on the DC jack and a bad battery.
The newer Kone Elevator Diagnostics tool had a broken on/off switch.
All of which repaired or replaced - See the second part “Teardown & Repair Kone Elevator Service Tool / Diagnostics Tool Pt 2”
Previously this Kone Service Tool could be purchased from Kone Spares for $3,500 +/- and the Kone Manual PDF (Diagnostics Tool Manual) could be downloaded but I no longer see it available on Kone’s website.

The Kone Service Tool Manual came with the one I purchased years ago from Kone Spares. It also works as a Kone Escalator Service Tool, Montgomery Elevator Service Tool and a Montgomery Miprom 21 Tool. Don’t buy a china Kone service tool try to get the real thing from Kone spares

Wow, there's a blast from the past. I designed the original Montgomery service tool in about 1988 (while in the basement of Moline's old post office.) It's amusing that something I did over 30 years ago is still useful to anyone. All the code for the DS2250 CPU was written in PLM-51 and assembly language. I had Margaret our secretary help pick out the keyboard colors. I feel kind of bad about some of that work because I used Dallas Semiconductor memory devices all over the Miprom2 boards and they only had a ten year service life. But 10 years to a 25 year old seems like an eternity.

Yes, still useful indeed. A much sought after scarcity it would seem as we can no longer get them which is why i am often sent units for repair (DC jacks, switches, voltage regs etc) They are more convenient than a laptop especially for escalators. The one odd thing is montgomery Kone and innovation are kind of going at a neck and neck battle for the universal circle buttons like some of the panals with universal say innovation and some have the kone logo and some have the actual montgomery logo

I used one for Many years as a KONE Tech. I believe The customer service tools have limitations as far as diagnostics and software interface.

I dont doubt that, I believe they sell different Level models. Both of these and one I purchased a few years back from Kone Spares was Level 3 which they claim does everything. It did everything I needed though I haven't used either of the two in this video yet as they were just sent to me for repair. I checked Kone Spares website and I don't see the tool for sale any longer. I'd rather have the hand held tool than a PC based tool though.

Thanks for the reply, nice work in the linked video as well. Wish I was as talented with painting things. After looking at a lot of motor-room videos on YT I started wondering if it were companies policies to paint the equipment after upgrades and such. Cleaning would make sense, but what effect does it have to paint a motor in a sheltered condition (it's not exposed to the elements) like this, that hardly anyone is going to see? Perhaps a bit short-sighted of me, but I can't really see a reason if the paint is still good. I would not expect it to rust quickly, as there is always some oil or grease present on the mechanical bits from the years of service... :)

The painting was the handy work of my apprentice at the time Travis. Some contracts require painting, some companies do it as policy but often its up to the discretion of the elevator mechanic as was the case here. We chose to paint it as it looked horrible with old Otis green machines and new gray motors. Having a clean painted work area / machine room has both a direct practical purpose and a psychological indirect purpose. A clean painted area makes it much easier to detect problems like oil leaks, metal dust/shavings, elevator hoist rope rouge or broke wire pieces, ect. When a machine room is spotless its easy to detect problems when its dirty or has a bad paint job its much more difficult than it might seem especially in low lighting. Lighting is increased during a mod due to code. The indirect psychological aspect is quite simply if an area is clean your likely to take better care of the equipment and the customer feels like the equipment is well taken care of. You’ll also be in a much better mood though some won’t recognize why. Eventually I will make a before and after video of that mod and it will be more clear why we painted it.

They don’t sell it anymore, employees can’t even get them. Kone will sell the laptop version though through Kone Spares I believe
