Never had much luck with elf mascara. But interestingly this comparison intrigued me. Thank you. I always wondered about the different black shades in mascaras. Black vs Blackest Black. Black vs Carbon Black. Black vs Pitch Black. I can’t really see a difference. I can understand a charcoal black which may be softer than pure black. I used to own a few gray mascaras and liked them better than brown as a softer alternative to black.

I truly think benefits has changed the formula! I was a huge fan & swore by it for several years! These past year I bought and returned 2 tubes...not.the.same! Have actually switched to the Maybelline Coss. Curl... don't think it holds the curl ALL day but still better then Benefits Roller Lash these days!

The benefit side looks old school not in a good way. The elf looks like your lashes but with a push up bra.

I was excited for a less expensive alternative to Benefit, but the Elf one is made in China....that's a no for me. I wish Elf would move their manufacturing out of there.

I'd say it was a straight copycat move. It would have been good even if it had a different package, name, style, etc. Mascaras aren't usually very interesting or unique, but I have two expensive ones that I'll buy again because I think they're better than the ones at the drugstore. People can tell me Essence is good and all that, but I don't care. I don't think it's better. My favorite mascara right now is the Lancome serum mascara. I hate the price, but man, I love the mascara. In this case, I like the way the Benefit side looks better (the other side is a little spidery IMO)

Neither of the mascaras impressed me tbh. They lengthened just ok and there's no volume to speak of. They didn't do your lashes justice.
