Tenor Choir Practice: “Ave Verum” by Sir Edward Elgar (1857-1934) from his Opus 2. Composed in 1902, “Ave verum corpus” was published as Op 2 No 1. The melody is sung by sopranos, and each verse is repeated by the full choir like a litany. Opus 2 includes “Ave Verum Corpus” , “Ave Maria” and “Ave maris stella”. Elgar’s church music is rooted in his Roman Catholicism, and also inseparably associated with the great Anglican Cathedral of his native city of Worcester.
