I'm not sure great music 'belongs' to any nation. It might be dear to a particular nation, symbolic of it even, but great music belongs to humanity as a whole. Inspiring emotion and feeling in humans equally, no matter their place of birth.

@Faso Malawi What music is good is a subjective personal judgement. I for example hated Punk Rock, but lots of people loved it. So I'm not sure it's possible to compile a list of who was 'best' at music in the nationalistic sense. All music has a place, and in some places particular music resonates with the masses.

No, it has nothing to do with Napoleon or his coronation in 1804. This Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 in D, Op.39 was composed by the British composer, Sir Edward Elgar in 1901. It did feature in a coronation but not Napoleon's. Elgar composed his 'Coronation Ode' for the coronation of the UK's King Edward VII and incorporated this Pomp and Circumstance March, along with lyrics written by A.C. Benson in 1902, as the final section of the 'Coronation Ode'.
