@abatesnz4 жыл бұрын
@@edskeates5357 But it is fundamentally a civil law continental legal system, which is a top-down, overbearing and ultimately wrong approach to law. Only common law is consistent with liberty, because it presumes us to be free to do as we please unless something has been explicitly banned (and through 700 years of discovery, those things that were banned were things that were found to have a victim). So no matter what work those British lawyers did, the foundations were compromised and they could never erect a framework for freedom.

KekskruemelReloaded The DDR National Anthem wasn’t bad. It was fairly stirring, had worthy motives even if naïve ones and at least it didn’t worship whichever species of Emperor was current. Frankly, regardless of nationality or ideology, National Anthems as such tend to the banal. Songs such as “Land of Hope and Glory” and (much better) “Jerusalem” are more to the point because they express desire to serve our fellow human beings.

Look at all the different national flags that are flying. Some from nations that we were at war with 70 years ago but now all welcome and brought together by these promenade concerts. This is one of Britain's gifts to the world.

I've always been surprised to see Japanese and South Korean flags in the audience for some reason. Perhaps because they were never in the British sphere of influence/close neighbours like most others. They just seem to be more out of place than even American or French flags. Not saying they don't belong there, just that I'm surprised they'd be interested in something as nationalistic as Last Night of the Proms.

Timestamps 2:51, 4:58, and 7:14 are where everyone -- including the audience in the Royal Albert Hall -- except the BBC Symphony Orchestra, starts singing along with this tune.

My grandmother died today (Friday, 07th Oct.). I listened and sang to this 3 hours non-stop. It's very therapeutic. The lyrics can well be taken for a soul that is set free and back with God now.

God this me gives goosebumps. BTW funny thing is that I know Sakari Oramo personally, and knew that he is a conductor okay, no other details leaked - very modest guy, But when this clip came up I was flabbergasted : Sakari Oramo conducting BBC symphony orchestra in Royal Albert Hall in BBC proms! As I said very down to earth guy in a good way.

I am now in Y8, I still remember I graduated one and a half years ago, and this is the graduation song. I still can't believe I actually graduated. Primary was the best moment ever in my life. Although secondary is good, I miss primary life so much, time flies and I know that I could never get back anymore.
