open ocean bait drifting im usually using between 6-8 oz sinker to hold bottom. for jigging are you not trying to hold bottom? figure a 2 oz bucktail would scope on ocean drifts. any advice is appreciated

10 or 15# braided line is very thin, cuts the water easily, and allows for the lighter weights.

Fun outing friends, quality fish, pretty boat. Good video! I see an iPilot so y'all are spotlocked and not the usual drifting for fluke.
@26halkman6 жыл бұрын
ToddFrom RichardsonTx - no, we used the Track mode on the Rhodan to help when the drift was slow. We’ve yet to use the spot lock feature.....we will start using that during blackfish season in October.

Hi John ! Im out of the Northport area and my teenagers are loosing interest in boat fishing because we arent finding any... Please guide me toward a north shore spot where i have a good chance for my kids to catch fish for the table other than Porgy. Thank you !
@JohnSkinnerFishing6 жыл бұрын
I wish I could help. The Sound has been really off for fluke this spring. Even Port Jeff didn't seem to have much of a run. Maybe Port Jeff is still your best bet, or around Cranes Neck.

@steventomasi9776 жыл бұрын
hi John. perhaps you can help me out,,,, I am a fairly good fisherman (but by no means as good as you). im having one hell of a time finding the fluke in my area. even the low hanging fruit areas around me that are normally productive are spotty at best. im drifting ledges and rips. trying to stay with the current but sometimes it just doesn't work that way. im usually in 15 to 30 feet. I try to catch the tide 2 hrs, before and after, and of course im fishing bucktails and gulp with teasers as I always have since the first time I watched you 3 to 4 years ago .
@JohnSkinnerFishing6 жыл бұрын
Are others catching fish in that area? I know spots that were awesome in the sound for the last 15 years that were terrible this spring. I'm thinking you're not the problem.

John. Two things first is What size Cobia is that boat ? Second, did you guys ever consider using a rubber net for fluke? The rubber net eliminates most tangles.
@JohnSkinnerFishing6 жыл бұрын
The smaller one is rubber.
@26halkman6 жыл бұрын
kc2jfs and the boat is a Cobia 256.

That’s what I thought. I have a 256 also. Love it
@johnkeriazesakadoc72716 жыл бұрын
kc2jfs Yes...I was just thinking that. The smaller one is rubber, however, there is another one they sell that is bigger and constructed differently. I am going to look to see if I find one...they really work well!

John, I'm trying everything to catch bigger strippers with plugs, buck tails, and sub surface lures yet I can't find anything over 27". I can find those dinkers and the 20"-27" but never above. Is my technique the reason?

@theotherone314156 жыл бұрын
Big strippers don’t typically go for bucktails. I’ve had luck with mixing in a $5 with the singles though
@chriswardenoftheforest14586 жыл бұрын
John Skinner Fishing I tried to fish the slack time in the tides like you have talked about so often but I have not fish in the dark at all, yet. I'd like to say I was up frolicking all night but in truth I have just not done it much mostly because the aren't any other fishermen out there at dark except on the beach where I see people using macks or clams.
@JohnSkinnerFishing6 жыл бұрын
I would start in the dark. If you don't want to fish dark, fish both ends of the day as close to dark as possible.
