@@JohnSkinnerFishing I was very determined to avoid that. Happened taking a 14" shorty off the hook. First time ever that bad in 40 years. I was more pissed losing an hour at the top of the tide.

Love the vid, only suggestion i could make is to get a net with silicone material so you dont keep getting your hooks snagged. Was a game changer for me.

John- why would you not have a left handed reel?? It’s apparent you prefer the rod in your right hand????
@hef-outdoors21165 жыл бұрын
nice vid. now I don't know if I should make the drive up there or stick to jersey which is only 3 hrs for me. trying to end my fluke season on a good note. as far as the backing ? I usually put 300 yd on even my back bay gear because every now and then depending on use I flip it to another reel so now what was on the bottom of the spool is now on top or if I lose line I just keep it til I don't have enough to feel comfortable. I had trouble getting out of the mono mentality and paying more for braid but I really think because it doesn't degrade like mono and reusing the bottom half as new, not to mention the extra fish, that I spend no more and have less work than when I replaced mono every year. just my two cents. tight lines!
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
Yep, you're doing the right thing with the braid. The last two days have seen a tough fluke pick at Montauk if that helps with your decision.

Awesome as usual , do you offer or would you interested in guiding a kayak trip this summer ?

John, your using a bass casting reel for Crank bait fishing for slow moving Flounder. The return ratio is highly elevated meant for lake fishing with a lot of casting and covering a lot of territory but getting deep. You have to have the right experiment and show us not sit there in boat not trying different things but how do you make catching Flounder so easy like a kid?- S
@andrewmenture80935 жыл бұрын
John i watch your videos almost everyday just awaiting the fluke season. Been jigging the past few season but just bought your nexus rod paired with the quantum. i have question about fishing with this setup. i never used a bait caster in salt water. might sound like a novice question but do you set the reel tension spool and brakes as you would for casting? what setting do you set you quantum? Last thing you have no idea how much i love and appreciate your videos. hope to see more content soon as your soaking the sun in florida. Thanks

@@JohnSkinnerFishing Thanks... BTW.. in connection to the video you posted a short while back about a shark you caught in the Sound.. I was walking along an East Hampton beach after the Dorian blow and found a juvenile Great White in a waist deep tidal stream on the back side of the beach. It was in poor shape. Must have followed bait. Crazy.

@Tyler-kw9ce5 жыл бұрын
Gotta say that really surprised me you dont have any faith in braid to leader connections. I would never think someone as experienced as yourself would us a swivel!! I fish florida inshore and offshore and we've landed huge amberjack, grouper, tarpon, and other powerful fish with fg knots and PR knots as well. The only time I've had one fail was from going through the guides over and over for about 4 hours of bottom fishing large red snapper. And I should of re tied. Only takes about a minute to tie an FG knot you should try it in the future I think you'll find it's a very reliable connection.
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
Good feedback. I think the issue is there's no downside up here to using a high-quality swivel for the connection, and it gives the advantages of ease of tying knots and the anti-twist benefit of a swivel. I've watched others break those braid/fluoro connections, but maybe they were bad knots.
@mybookfacetube5 жыл бұрын
Great fishing. Is it the knot or the backing you don't trust John?

That guy Rick is a little rough on the fish. Netted the fish then just dumped it out on the deck. If your not gonna keep the fish that's a horrible way to treat it.
@JohnSkinnerFishing5 жыл бұрын
We ate everything. It's a fast way to get it out of the net before it tangles.
@Tyler-kw9ce5 жыл бұрын
I hope you don't eat commercially harvested fish. If so your condoning and financing much worse treatment of fish. A little drop from a net is not bad when the fish will be eaten.
