Edison Motors - Canadian company - has built some really cool logging trucks with electric engines with diesel generators to recharge the batteries. Check them out! My "issue" with the large banks of batteries is that the average fire department doesn't have the capability to put out an electric car fire, and no one is ever "planning" on getting in an accident, which sometimes results in fires.

Agreed! I tried to keep this bite-sized and probably should have mentioned what Edison Motors is doing for the long-range community. I think discussing the challenges of short/mid/long range needs could be a fun topic and appreciate the idea! As far as fire control, one perk of the Ramcharger (battery/gas generator combo in general) is that it actually has a 92 kWh battery versus the fully electric Ram REV with 168kWh so in that "worst case scenario" it may reduce the spread of a potential fire since there are approximately half the amount of batteries to fuel it.

This is actually how the Chevy Volt works, it's a fully electric car with a gas generator built into it. Thanks for the great video!

Great point! The Chevy Volt helped kick this off and should have been mentioned. In retrospect, I attempted to spend a little more focus on how this could help the more industrial community that has been reluctant (where towing can reduce range in the 50% range depending on conditions) consider this as an option.
