If you screwed down a second layer of 3/4 inch plywood on top of your bench it would be much sturdier

use a stone or coarse grit wheel and take those burs off valves in seconds and you wont hurt the guides forcing them.

I had to replace the guides too, so it didn't really mater if I hurt them

Would it be possible to build up that valve landing with weld and machine it back down again? That way you wouldn’t have to use a spacer.

No, I am not a fan of hardened seats. I would only do it if the seats are too far gone and can't be lapped
