Amo quest'opera, un capolavoro finalmente riportato alla luce da Cappella Mediterranea diretta da Leonardo Garcia Alarcon. Costumi, luci e coreografie perfette. Cavalli ha scritto un impianto musicale coerente dalla prima all'ultima nota. Cantanti tutti all'altezza delle parti vocali. Esempio eccelso di come rendere attualissima un'opera di più di trecento anni fa. Grazie come sempre Alarcon per donarci un'altra occasione per apprezzare il genio musicale di Francesco Cavalli tra i più grandi compositori che l'Italia abbia mai avuto.

Y pensar que fue bajada de cartel después de muy pocas interpretaciones, aduciendo el director del teatro que el estilo de Cavalli estaba "pasado de moda".

The singers did a wonderful job, but the role of Alexander was written for a soprano castrato. The people in charge should have sought out a sopranist to take the part, rather than transposing it an octave lower for tenor like many productions do.

They also gave Alessandro to another Tenor, Ed Lyon. Truly a strange case. They probably wanted to distinguish Alessandro from Eliogabalo, that lr they were on a shortage of Countertenors….. which in that case could be solve by giving the role to a female Soprano.

Opernhaus Zürich has two sopranos, one for Eliogabalo and one for Alessandro. Together with the female sopranos it's an absolutely highlight.
