I am not a Christian so I am not trying to defend Christianity but the comparison you made is totally wrong. Fascism is based on the ideology of white superiority while Christianity is a religion based on the belief of one god. Of course it has led to horrible actions through medieval times but that is something that is long gone and it actually appears that those beliefs of discrimination are actually eliminating by the day due to the christian church wanting to maintain and increase its following. Neonazism on the other hand still holds those horrible beliefs of fascism and values them.

I think that she's secretly not a Scientologist. [she just can't be - not a serious one anyway] Her terrific performance is easy for her - because she constantly feels like somebody is watching her. No "acting" required. She's as much of a brainwashed scientologist as June/Offred is a fundamentalist Christian baby machine. Scrape away the thin religious veneer, and you can see a free-spirited lady waiting for her chance to be set free - that's why her performance is so successful.

There's a line in Bojack Horseman that explains cults like Scientology really well: "What?! No! It's not a cult. It's just a dogmatic school of thought taught by a for-profit organization with the promise of social and professional opportunities." So basically, "pay money to join our organization and we'll make you famous." I wonder how many parents threw money at it to make their kids famous child actors that resulted in the kids turning to drugs and hating their lives.

I trust that by now you've watched all three seasons since S3 ended a couple weeks ago. Man, it's like Gilligan's Island. She's *never* gonna get out of Gilead, let alone get Gilead out of Gilead... For a show that started with such promise, S3 sucked. She had already made Underground contacts in S1. The revolution should be well under way by now. Instead it's devolved into just a dragging yawn of a character study with her being crazy most of the time, getting next to nothing done. I'm sick of her Psycho June stare. GET ON WITH IT ALREADY AND CHE GUEVARA THE HELL UP.

It appears she was raised in it. The deeper we dig into the personal lives of artists and entertainers the more we find out *suprise* they’re not perfect, they do things that some people don’t agree with and in some cases criminal things...much like “ordinary” people. She’s an actress and a good one at that, I enjoy watching the show, I have no control over what she does in her personal life and knowing that I myself am not perfect, I choose not to judge.

Her experience could also be lending to her believability in the role in The Handmaid's Tale. I think she far more clever than the commenters are leading on. She's well aware of her involvement in a controversial organization and yet refuses to address it in interviews. I can almost guarantee it's part of the "do not ask" list when agreeing to participate in interviews around the promotion of her shows and other activities.

The Internal Revenue Service in u.s. decided it was not a cult in the 1990's. Other governments have decided the same thing, not all of them, but many have.

The Handmaid's Tale is the only series I've seen that stars Elizabeth Moss. In fact, it's pretty much the only place I've seen her. When she walked in and sat down, all I could picture in my head was that this was actually and truly Offred/June, attending a talk show after the fall of Gilead to tell her tale. And that feeling was really, really cool. Because it's also plausible. Talk shows would most likely be reinstated after Gilead is gone, and I could see June attending one.

I read The Handmaid's Tale for English when I was in high school and became an instant fan of Margaret Atwood. I absolutely loved Elisabeth Moss in this show, and still do to an extent. I just recently learned about her involvement in Scientology. How can someone playing this role still uphold cult values in their real life? It goes against everything she believes in and fights for. I don't think I can ever look her the same way, it will be hard for me to believe any honesty her character portrays knowing it's all a sham compared to her true self.

Celebrities all in denial about bad Scientology practices, and of course they’re not exposed to such practices. Moss’ comments (and Moss recently is still defending scientology): - _Vulture_ interview: She has previously spoken about how the church is personally helpful to her, not anti-gay, and “grossly misunderstood by the media.” But Moss does not talk about Scientology even with friends and seems very comfortable with how uncomfortable it makes other people. “I would feel the same way, honestly,” she says. “I think if there was something that I didn’t know and didn’t understand, I would probably feel as opinionated. You know how you’re opinionated about when someone breaks up? Celebrities break up and you just feel like you know what happened?” - _The Advocate_ interview: Q: As a Scientologist, how do you interpret your church’s stance on gay people? Moss: One of the most important things I take from my church is the idea of personal freedom and our rights as human beings, and that includes the right to date a man or a woman. Personal freedom is a very important concept in my religion, and I translate that to sexual orientation …. There isn’t really any dogma or scripture, yes or no, right or wrong on that particular subject in my church. It’s more open to personal interpretation, and that’s my interpretation. Q: Is it fair to say that your church’s stance on homosexuality is misunderstood by the media? Moss: Many of my church’s stances and concepts are grossly misunderstood by the media. It’s a long list.

So few American actors can pull off a half-way decent antipodean accent, but Moss did a brilliant job. It had elements of both Aussie and Kiwi, but her character was born and raised in the South Island and then moved to Sydney. So she did a perfect job. We had another show here called the Kettering Incident, which featured another (this time English) actress cast as a local, but she never sounded like anything other than middle-class English.

The rejection of all belief is, in itself, a belief system. Perhaps you are different than the Reddit atheists, but a dogmatic belief in a science that you trust in without understanding or practicing is identical to the belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, Boiled Be He

Adam Noble-Johnson atheism isn't a rejection of all belief systems, it's not believing in god. Maybe the atheists over at Reddit are a bunch of smarmy pricks about it, and try to justify their lack of beliefs with a belief system but I don't know them. All I'm saying is that Scientology is no worse than any other religion. It's just newer and easier to debunk. She seems lovely, like any believer or non-believer who is lovely... is all I mean
