It is so exciting to see an other red head with dreadlocks. I am a ginger myself and I found it pretty hard to picture myself with dreads, cause the color of my hair. Looks so good on you!

Hi Elise! Great video! I just wanted to recommend that if your dreads feel sticky you could try a deep cleanse where you soak them in hot water, apple cider vinegar, baking soda and essential oils. I do a deep cleanse every couple of months because it helps dissolve any build up inside the locs!
@EliseBuch5 жыл бұрын
Sticky is the wrong word, it's like stiff and not soft... like wearing an old sweater.

i have dread extensions myself, i made them myself and used human hair, i would say i have a similar hairstructure to yours, a little wavy and curls here and there, so i picked wavy extensions instead of flat ones, so they also build bumps and look very natural :) maybe thats what makes them look so unnatural.

Needed this video! I’ve been wanting to do dreads for a year now but I’m waiting for my hair to grow out to do it! I’ve considered extensions but I’m afraid they’ll cost way too much and also like you said be too heavy! I get headaches pretty easily so I think I’ll keep waiting till my hair grows longer and then do them!

My freeform type 2b/2a dreads are amazing, and I love them more than I think I could ever love super maintained and uniform locks. They're loopy but getting tighter, they have these wavy parts, they've got crazy volume... Not so much an extension/natural point, but I think freeform, totally natural locks are the most rewarding way to go.

I currently have in Wool dread extensions and plan on using them to start my real dreads by interlocking the new growth behind the wool dreads as they grow out. (if that makes sense.) The reasoning for this is because my hair is shoulder length and if I were to start dreads without the extensions it would get super short. Love your dreads and I know that by now you have removed them, but they do suit you. :)

I have tried braiding sections all over my head while my dreads where just about dry and then finishing them with my hair dryer. Makes the extensions a little bumpy looking almost like natural grown dreads.
@troebeliewoep5 жыл бұрын
The wool dreadlocks I know of are the type to wear temporarily. You braid your own hair around it and after a month or so you take them out by undoing the braid. I like them because it makes it so easy to switch looks, but they are not “real dreadlocks” ofc

@Ms.Behaving4 жыл бұрын
This is a year old so I doubt anyone will see this. I really want to start my journey however my hair is thin and short, shoulder length. I know your natural hair gets shorter as the dreads mature. If I put in extensions in the beginning can I remove them later on when they mature a little and still keep my own hair dreaded? if that makes any sense.
@K3Sherva4 жыл бұрын
I randomly just saw this, I had extensions put in with my baby dreads the same day. About 6 weeks later I didn’t like the section of a couple so I took them out and redid them. You totally can remove the extension without removing your natural dread hair! I have done it. Let me know if you have a question!

I have had natural dreads before but they started to matte together really bad, so I decided to take them out and start over. I cut my hair shorter because of all of the damage so that I wouldnt look like a scarecrow. I am going on a trip in a couple months and I really miss my dreadlocks but would like to skip the crazy phase for a little while. so my question...Can i add extensions to baby dreads? will my real dreads still mature if I have extensions on them?
@charleyturner76545 жыл бұрын
at what point would you recommend putting extensions in. i want to grow my own dreads and go for the natural method as much as i can, but i’m considering adding extensions after i’ve dread locked my own hair. i don’t want to tamper with the growing/maturing process of my natural dreads but i don’t want to have super short dreads, so what is the best point to add extensions so that i’ll get some extra length without forfitting the growth of my natural dreads?
@marysusansusan5 жыл бұрын
You know they may be sticky because you are using the gel so much. Dreads have a lot of issues with buildup anyways so it wouldn't be that surprising.
@EliseBuch5 жыл бұрын
It's not like that, they har stiff and sticky as an old sweater, very uncomfortable to sit up against. That's what I mean.
@erintraicene74225 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean by sticky. I think the word "stiff" or "grippy" describes what you mean by "sticky" accurately. As in not as soft and smooth as your own hair. Nicely done video. I did not know the process of dreading right into the extension starting at the roots. Good info for those getting started. Personally just wanted to say I too sometimes struggle with the desire to brush out my dreads as you had. And your journey with this last year helps me realize I would likely regret it as you did. And would be putting them back in. I'm compromising with brushing out a few more around the front. As much more work as partial dreads are it'll help me not do anything rash, like brushing out them all. Been a fan for 2+years. Happy for you and your continued success!

Ksenia Swampland you can brush them but it takes hours ! KZbin has a few vids in this that are very helpful . Most have a helper to move the process along but seems to just take a metal comb , conditioner or sorts , and lots of patience . Most did have to do a big trim to their hair though after .

First do a good deep clean with warm water, bicarbonate soda and lemon juice- rinse for long time in shower. Ring out extra water then add lots of conditioner especially on the extensions wrap in towel for minimum one hour- rinse out well in shower. Do once/twice a week until they loosen up and feel soft, silky and lighter. Do NOT palm roll and add that product you are. Palm rolling and adding that product makes them hard, scratchy and too tight. People are afraid to condition. It’s not to be afraid of. It makes them more beautiful, lighter and natural. I promise they won’t hurt your hair because it is locked now.
@EliseBuch5 жыл бұрын
It has actually helped a lot palmrolling them, since it's pushing down the hair that is making them uncomfortable 😋 I often do treatments to condition, but that doesn't make a difference, really
