My tips for learning Ukulele are... 1) find a song to practice; I found that at the beginning, I enjoyed learning chords and progressions but that I soon got bored with just knowing chords. So find one of your favorite songs, and there are plenty of songs that use super simple chords. Even knowing one song can help you get motivated to practice everyday. 2) Practice everyday; EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. It can be for five minutes, it can be for an hour. But if you practice every single day soon it becomes a habit. Right now, I find myself picking up the ukulele at completely random times, I'll even crave playing it at random times. And finally. 3) Have fun with it; Don't force yourself to practice if you're not feeling it. If you dread playing the ukulele, then you won't want to continue learning it. And that reaches the end of this comment. Congratulations if you've made it this far. You're a dedicated reader, and I commend you. Happy playing!

Honestly,people say "learning the ukulele is easy"but it all comes with practice and I think that this video will really open people's eyes that without the motivation and time and practice,learning the ukulele could take years.I started learning in December last year and now I think that I have improved massively because the amount of times I practiced and the hours I practiced.Sure,it might be difficult to find that small spark of motivation to pick up your ukulele and try playing but in the end it's truly rewarding to learn a new song or maybe even a chord that was really difficult at first.If you are a beginner reading this,don't give up,keep practicing and keep trying because nobody can magically be amazing at something,learn songs you truly enjoy and that aren't too difficult and progress from there.

Now I bought my first ukulele to just do something different and learn something new. I already learned two songs in the last two days and it brings me so much joy to play it and listen to the happy sound of the ukulele. Thank you for your videos, they are great. Easy to follow and a have wide variety of songs. The best advise I can give for learning a new instrument when you are extremely busy and have little time is to just play a few minutes between different tasks. To play parts of songs I struggle at 5 minutes in my study breaks really improves my playing. Hopefully helpful to some ☺️

I got a ukulele 7+ years ago when I was pretty little along with a little book to try to learn. Eventually, I kinda lost interest/got frustrated, and stopped playing. I picked it back up a few days ago, partly because I saw one of your videos, and now I'm using youtube to start back up. I’ve also been playing piano for the past few years with an actual teacher and going to several events a year. The point is, even though this is years old, I appreciate the reminder to just have fun.

One thing that stops me from becoming better in playing guitar and ukulele is the lack of "appropriate" pieces, but that also challenge me... I play the piano, guitar and ukulele a lot. With the piano it never was a problem because I know to read sheet music on it, and since you can play pretty much anything on a piano, I always found tons of free sheets and played songs and soundtracks I liked. They caught me and challenged me and I needed time to master them perfectly some day. That's not changed a lot since the 7 years I play. With guitar and Ukulele though, well I've learned my chords and changing fastly and strumming, I play a few riffs.. though I cant change quickly to bar chords yet. It becomes boring and dull for me though. I play, but I don't learn anything, cause I see the chords and can just play them from the paper, if they ain't too hard. I guess I'd like to get a little bit more into finger picking (not classical though but idk how the other stuff is called really) and more interesting and difficult things, but on youtube 90% of tutorials are just soo easy like just C-G-a-F and stuff, or they're way too hard. Then, tabs are harder to find than sheets and they're rarely for free. And even if I knew playing sheets - you can't just play anything on a guitar/uke. I'd love to have more tutorials on slightly more complex stuff, like the mii theme, or like "mixed" performances that have fingerpicking, strumming, maybe some percussion with your hands, if you know any of that ^^ "I see fire" and "Let her go" are good examples for a catchy fingerpicking intro and phrases in between.
@genericusername84945 жыл бұрын
I think you need to find songs that you enjoy and play them. That's going to give you the most joy. And also what are "appropriate pieces"?

thank you for the advice skshkjbmnn i practice playing my uke every day, for as long as i feel i should. some days it’s fifteen minutes, others it can be up to about an hour and a half. it depends on my schedule and motivation that day. i love playing my uke, i love hearing the music, and it’s become a huge part of my life. i constantly watch your videos, and honestly, i love them. playing the uke is one of my favorite things to do. it’s a way of relieving stress and anxiety, which is great. thank you so much for all the great advice. i’ll keep it all in mind. trying to play new chords scares me. i usually try transposing the chords or finding an easier version of the song rather than trying to stretch my fingers into crazy positions. but i try to practice those as well.

I got my ukelele on Christmas and started practicing everyday in January, it didn't feel like an obligation because I really liked it. I remember how at first I only used single strums and I struggled in the G, but in some point in my second month I was already using strumming patterns and singing at the same time, now I'm working in bar chords though I get some of them like B and Bb. I really think you are the one who inspired me to practice (is it practise) and be patient and had faith in me, so thank you. I'm really glad I found your Girls/Girls/Boys guitar tutorial long time ago and stayed.

I record myself at least once a week and just in that short amount of time I (and my family) can clearly see the progress, they're all really surprised because they though I would give up really quickly but I didn't and litteraly fell in love with this instrument, thank you again Elise :) Love from France

Very good advice. I would also add that a lot of musisians don't seem to have any sort of ear training. In other words, if they lose their tunner, they can't tune the instrument. Also if something is adjusted wrong or defective on the instrument thats making it play out of tune, all the tuning devises in the world aren't going to make it play in tune. I learned to use one tuning fork years ago to tune my guitar. I can also tune it without one. I can even do intonation on an electic guitar. This came through practicing tuning. In the beginning you will probably rely a little still on your tuner and that's ok, but after a while you should be able to to tell if the string is not only sharp or flat, but by how much, ( a little sharp or a lot, s little flat or a lot).

Around the 8 and half minute mark you gave a piece of advice that I was already following. When I started (like 2 or so weeks ago) I was very lucky to have found a weird niche of ukulele tutorials for nirvana songs before my uke arrived. There's a lot of good ones I love that you can't find, but there's also a few good tutorials of classics. So when it arrived I went straight away to trying to learn songs I love. I've since found out that a few aren't as simplistic as some recommended beginner songs but I kinda don't care because the struggle is worth it.

I'm learning to play the bass guitar, I don't feel practice as practice, it's more like playing a video game. I enjoy it so much that time just flies by and I have to keep track of how long I've been playing otherwise I'll go to bed at dawn. If you enjoy something so much that time just flies by you don't even have to think about practicing every day, it will come naturally, you will crave it, hard!! You will crave it so much you won't be able to wait too long before you pick up your instrument and try that hard-to-play song again just for the challenge and satisfaction of finally being able to get it right!! It also helps me a lot that there's a video game for the Xbox 360 called Rocksmith 2014, it's mostly for guitar but almost all the songs have bass too and that makes it a lot easier to play because it repeats the riffs over and over and it bumps up the difficulty automatically as your skill level increases, it's awesome!!! It's tragic they didn't make it for newer versions of the platform, I would be all over the new versions if they were available!! I visit our girl friend often and when we go visit, I spend no less than two hours playing, she plays the guitar and it's always so much fun!!! I love all your advice Elise, it's useful for any instrument. I'm glad you never listen to the haters of your channel, you're an awesome girl and I love your channel!!

Thank you for this video. Sometimes I feel like I will never be able to perform in front of other people and then I get insecure even when I practise alone. I have been seriously playing since the beginning of quarantine and now I know how to play almost every chord, but sometimes my hands bug, especially when I know someone's listening to me 😂 I won't give up, though. Let's keep up, guys!

(Btw I practice chords and strumming patterns on a small guitar that has four strings, it’s broken, but I’ve had it for years) I hate and love it when I’m laying and bed, get bored, and wanna play. Also wanting to play ukulele has made me want to play guitar more. One song I just “learned” I stared to play on piano and guitar. The only bad thing about transferring the song to piano is knowing how to play the chords, not what chords to play or what order to play them in. I think learning the same song on multiple instruments is helpful for playing the song on all the instruments, but more than if you were play the same song on only one.

I chose my whole summer vacation to try and learn the ukulele and I am so close to summer two and a half day bu I have until September 9th (my dad's birthday) so I have five months. I chose to play the song wonderwall because my dad likes this song and I will try to play it on his birthday

I don't like performing much, I'm not good at singing and people get upset if I don't sing with my playing, but then if I sing they say my voice is too low or out of tune, because I don't really try to sing. My reason to play the ukulele is that it's the happiest thing I'll ever heard in my life and it helps me with anxiety and depression; everytime I play I feel joyful and full of energy, but if I play for people I feel pretty sad and don't want to pick up the uku again
