Great advise, what helped me a lot was the Kala app. It was nice to have it play the melody as I played the chords, plus you could slow it down.

You should publish your 30-Day Ukulele Challenge; it would DEFINITELY be a best-seller! Thanks so much for the recommendations. I like everything you said, but my takeaway is what you mentioned about performance. I am in the midst of packing and making preparations to move, so I know that participation in Cynthia Lin’s 100days challenge would be far too hectic, but I watch as the friends and community have become stronger singers/players. I have a notion to begin in late June. I’ll throw the whole basket upside-down when everyone sees “1/100!” 😅😅😅😅😂😂😂😂

I love these kind of Videos! Great content, thank you :) My favourite Ukulele book is one called "Ukulele Aerobics". It has great exercises for each day of the week for a year. One day you focus on picking patterns, another you learn/practise techniques like Hammer on/ pull off and so on. Its great! ... And i should use it more :p

Interesting Ms.B I don't have a song book, yet. Seen that Daily Ukulele song book in a music store. Good food for thought video, thanks. Fun video idea, show us weird chords. Sure would make the E chord less intimating when seeing those future finger bending wonders. Happy day

I had a Beatles guitar book that looked about the same as yours. It had music notation in it so when I played sax I learned a lot of Beatles songs! It was also invaluable to learning guitar chords. I recently bought a book called Ukulele Chord Songbook The Beatles. It has helped me learn a bunch of chords as well as learning different ways to form chords. Like I've learned three different fingerings for F# Minor! Another Ukulele book I'm learning a ton from is Ukulele Exercises For Dummies. It's helped me a lot!

Amos Anon I think you’re right. I love my little Uke already. But yesterday I was doing pretty well and playing some basic songs from the method books I have and then I discovered the horror of barre chords. Still a bit traumatised.
@amosanon32745 жыл бұрын
@@JemmaBlood just back off a bit, take your time. Be careful not to push either your tendons, or patience too hard. Find a song or 2 you love so you can always fall back to singing and playing them. For me its fools rush in sung by Tyler of 21 pilots.

Amos Anon I think that’s really good advice because after trying chords yesterday I thought “this bloody hurts”. I’m having a lesson next week so hopefully if I’m holding it wrong he can correct me. But the Ukulele community seems absolutely lovely 💜

Thanks sooo much for this! I wondered if you can advise on any online chord changes exercises that I can practice with? I’m having such a hard time with the Bb and Em-like switching into or out of. I kinda have been switching into the chord one finger at a time and as you know that ruins the flow of the song. Any suggestions? I really wanna get better at a seamless chord switch- you make it look hecka easy! 🙂 Thanks Chica!
@Markle2k5 жыл бұрын
Start slow and make sure you have a good sound from each string. The Bb and Em are fairly simple shapes that should come with muscle memory after repetition. Of course Bb has you barre-ing three strings at once which can be difficult if your nut is cut so that the action is high (extremely common even on higher-priced instruments). If you fret a Bb and all your strings ring sharp against your tuner (put it on the chromatic setting like Bernie recommends), you might be having problems just because you are having to press too hard. Your local music store can help you out with that. Or, if you are a do-it-yourselfer, the tools that will work (sandpaper and fine, round files) are pretty inexpensive and there are lots of written and video tutorials online to teach you how to set up your ukulele to have it play the way you want. And don't worry too much about screwing up because replacement nuts and saddles that are better than those that come on beginner ukes are even cheaper ($5 for a set of two) than the toolset you need to adjust them.

Markle2k 😊 My index finger doesn’t bend at the top so I think that is why I can’t get it! I will keep trying tho ! Thanks so much for your feed back! Good looking out 🥰
@Markle2k5 жыл бұрын
@@DLCVDA As I was writing that out, I kept stopping and thinking "I hope she doesn't have a physical issue..." Without actually seeing your problem (the knuckle nearest the nail doesn't bend?) it is difficult to say, but full-width barre chords are typically played with the side of your finger, specifically the side next to the thumb. And ukulele fretboards are generally flat, so there shouldn't be much bending of your index finger involved. If I understand correctly that that is your issue it might be hard to get the Em stair step shape without pulling your ring or middle finger off the board. There are two or three other options. If it is physically impossible for you to play a barre chord ignore the rest of what I'm about to say. You could play the index finger on the 2nd fret of the A string like a single string barre chord with the side of your index finger, arching your middle and ring fingers for the A and C strings 0, 4, 3, 2. You could do the same, but play it in the shape of a D minor barred two frets up. 4, 4, 3, 2, on GCAE. Or another is just barre the C, A, E strings at the seventh fret with your ring finger. The open G string can be played or not as the C string seventh fret is the same note. Strings played in unison can sound cool if your ukulele is properly intonated.

Your videos are so helpful and informative. I really like to learn from videos on youtube but sometimes I feel like I don’t really know where to go next cause sometimes I try to see if I can go to the next level by playing something more difficult, but it then turns out to be a bit more challenging than I thought (woah, that is a long sentence) I feel like books guide you to the correct way with the essential steps in between the different kinds of levels.

Amazing & simple video😊😊😊. I do agree on your take about performing Ms. B🤙🤙🤙. As my experience on performing back then, I can say that if you practice good you will be able to perform good , but if you start performing, you will be able to exchange emotions with your audiences. What I mean is , you feed them with your performance and as you perform you will see them appreciating it, enjoying it and the best part is jamming with you, and that energy will be feedback to you and you will have this certain energy in you that you will only be able to explain if you started ,tried or experienced performing . To Ms. B’s followers, start performing, it maybe just in front of your family, classmates or friends because you gotta get your feet wet, all it takes is just “one” and then the experience after that will teach you what to do next, or learn next. Every “Pro” was once a “beginner” so start your journey 😊😊😊🎶🎙🔈🤙🤙🤙Peace&love!

I always wondered about how difficult it is to learn an instrument from a book when it's such an audible experience and how some people manage it despite all that. Swear I couldn't learn nothing on my own without the wonderful resources on YT these days. Little Phaedo might have *actually* learned to play guitar if such a community existed way back when (the dern book I got didn't help).
