Please share! Elissa Mullins is a poet-librarian, introvert, and ailurophile from Urbana-Champaign, Illinois. She was diagnosed with type 2 narcolepsy at age 20 and is sharing her story to raise awareness and advocate for sleep health for all people. As a trained speaker with Project Sleep’s Rising Voices of Narcolepsy program, she will describe how her narcolepsy has shaped the pattern of her young adult life for the better, fomenting a fierce commitment to her art and an attitude of radical self-care.
To improve public understanding of narcolepsy, Project Sleep’s Rising Voices of Narcolepsy program trains people with narcolepsy to share their stories through public speaking and writing with local communities, healthcare providers, news outlets, blogs and beyond. Combining the power of real-life stories with expert communication strategies, our Rising Voices of Narcolepsy trained speakers and writers are effectively raising awareness and reducing stigma for all those facing narcolepsy.
