I love that canonically, Elite still knows sound doesn’t travel in space. Any sound you hear (that’s not something physically hitting your ship) is the ship’s computer doing it’s best to recreate sounds for the pilots situational awareness. ... Meaning that this sound is the best thing the computer came up with to represent a massive object literally tearing a hole in the fabric of space.

Think it was Michael Brooks as wehn it was first introduced he posted about it being more fitting to the lore that the Capital ships were too big for the Frame Shift Drives and Supercruise so still used the old Hyper Drives that had the Hyperspace wake cloud at entry and exit as seen in Frontier :Elite 2

Actually, no. All impossible sounds in the game are simulated on your deck. They are based on the sound in atmosphere (Like Earth, for example). It's in the lore, plus you can "turn it off" simply by cracking you glass on your deck.

@@William_Reader A similar concept is used in the Gundam franchise, Universal Century in particular. We humans rely heavily on sound to perceive the world around us. In space, without that sound, it can be disorienting. As such, pilots of the humanoid fighting machines called Mobile Suits are given a variety of sensors which detect everything from small objects like debris to large fleets of ships and other Mobile Suits. Built in to the cockpit is an audio system which is linked to the sensors. The usual audio queues for incoming projectiles, unknown objects approaching and so on are there, but it also includes sound effects that mimic in-atmosphere sounds like thrusters, weapons fire and explosions so that the pilot can use his/her hearing to listen for important queues of changes on the battlefield. It is reasonable to assume a similar concept would be used in various starships.

I remember one time I was in the middle of a large scale dog fight and all of a sudden I hear !warning! capital class signature detected. I was like oh ok then seconds later I see a slip space rupture and I was like there she is but then two more appear. At that very moment everything went from explosion's and lasers to still silence. everything stopped and then all three ships opened fire and killed probably everyone. I don't really know as I was one of the first to die. But the slip space sound that came from all three ships was SO loud, like my volume was at 20 (not very loud) and I still had to turn it down.

Reality is less sterile and untethered by incomplete hubristic assumptions that just because your last breath doesn't carry past point blank, doesn't mean it was silent. So I had this crazy Idea and hear me out, again it is crazy: So what if after aquiring the higest rank in a specific faction they make you a Battlecruiser/ Interdictor captain? How it would work gameplay wise is your capital ship would be something you call in (So think like a power) instead of flying it around (kills the fun I am aware. This crazy Idea is simply giving you control of the firepower of one of these beasts). I think a good counterbalance for this though would be once you have your beautiful mile long machine of absolute destruction you cannot leave the faction with it. So basically you would be able to call your Interdictor/battlecruiser in once you reach a high intensity combat zone. Your ship would dock and you would be able to control your Capital Ship's weapons from the bridge. Like I said a crazy (and possibly stupid) idea. Would be kind of cool though.

Never, not personally at least. The best we’ll ever get is telling it where to go.

Sadly never. The Anaconda, Corvette and Clipper lorewise are the largest ships that can be piloted by a single person. The Capital ships require a standard crew to have it move around. Probably navigators and engineers to calibrate the jumps and fuel usage.

@@PM-gm2bn another theory I have is that power distribution works differently on larger ships. Due to the size of shields, engines and weapons. Ever wonder why you hear captains of fictional ships say "divert power to shields, weapons etc" My guess is you need another person or 2 monitoring the power of the ship and diverting where it needs while a crew of engineers fit everything to accept said power without damaging the boat.

Frontier really should collaborate with games workshop.. they need to introduce the cataclysm that created the eye of terror as a ingame event, dividing the universe. And every jump should go through the warp, exposing you to the immaterium.
