In the options you can assign a button to supercruise. This will allow you to accelerate to supercruise no matter what direction you're facing and regardless of your selected destination. Makes skirting those occluded waypoints a breeze! I love watching these for the little things I've missed and which make life easier. Totally learned a few new tricks today. Thanks, Scott.

Best way to make money in this game starting as a new character, as I've just started a new game myself is- If you got horizons expansion then just do surface missions around the starting area. It may be a bug as I've not had this happen once I left the starting area. So take a mission of mercy which is basically to find a downed pilot escape pod with the SRV, usually you can find them within a 30k radius of the place your docked at. When you find the crashed vessel there will probably be 4 pilots to rescue, the SRV holds 2 so go to and from your ship to get all 4 pilots. When you go back to the station to complete the mission they will only ask for 1 pilot letting you keep the other 3 so when you accept another mercy mission you can instantly complete it with the other 3 pilots, if you look around you can get upto 200k per pilot. I'm now about 30 ly from the starting area and it doesn't seem to happen anymore, i only rescue 1 pilot, needs more testing tho to confirm. Getting 500k+ for 30 mins work at the start of the game was pretty helpful.

If you often find yourself in a situation where your jump target is behind something or any other situation which requires you enter/exit frameshift without hyperjumping to your target system, you may want to bind the enter frameshift button.This in addition to the default bind for frameshift/hyperdrive. Or you may want to bind frameshift and hyperjump to differnt buttons. These keybinds are available, but not bound to anything by default.

To the new players, as stated in the video, for a ship with less than 100t cargo running Rare trade goods routes is much more advantageous than any other kind of trading available. And very accessible to new players... Although a lot of googling is required =] Or do the shadow missions (smuggling). It's apparently a new thing, but the payouts there are even crazier (like up to 7mil per courier mission). But I have no clue what are the requirements....

If you map the FSD control to two separate buttons, one to jump and one for in system travel you can get around obstacles much easier than having to keep reselecting jump destinations when they are obstructed.

You could also use fuel scoop for long distance traveling.
@TheRogueWolf9 жыл бұрын
The problem with obscured jump targets is why I have a hotkey set to jump right into supercruise. Also, I've found it much better to set a course specifically to a station within my destination system, so that I'm not fumbling around with menus and maps while some jerk NPC pirate lines up for an interdiction. Also, another tip: When you're looking to sell things (whether trading goods or selling off mined materials), check the bulletin board first. I once made 112k credits on a small pile of minerals that would've gotten me about 8k on the market, because there was a mission for those minerals on the board. And note at around 19:00, Scott's HUD above the fuel readout shows "illicit goods". Some systems prohibit certain items while others don't, and if you're scanned by law enforcement with that tag showing, they won't care that you're "just passing through". It can pay to check each system along your route for what's considered contraband if you're doing a long haul and need to stop for gas!

In regards to sorting the parts while outfitting your ship, I find it's easier to find what I'm looking for when I sort by Module Type. This way if I were looking for a certain size Cargo Bay all of the Cargo Bays will be next to each other.
@DanteCorwyn9 жыл бұрын
Good tutorial. I occasionally trade in my Cobra, but I tend to do bounty hunts or courier runs, so seeing how trading works properly is useful. It's worth checking the bulletin board every time you land in a new station. There's always the chance someone wants some of your cargo at a premium rate. Also, take along surplus stock (so if someone wants 5 coffee, take 10 if you can). I've been able to complete one mission, then automatically start and complete another, just because there was high demand for that item. Are you going to be covering mining by any chance? I've just bought an Adder to act as a mining ship (there seems to be a huge demand for certain minerals and metals that can only be sourced by directly mining them in my local systems), and it would good to see how it works in practice, and if it is as dull as I've heard (I'm contemplating buying a small fleet of specialist ships to pull of jobs as the demand comes, my Cobra as a good all-rounder, possibly a Viper MkIV or a vulture as a bounty-hunter/assassination ship etc)

When outfitting its easier to see what modules by using the sort by name decending/acending depending on what you want. It will group modules type e.g. Cargo rack then by size e.g. 1 then the next biggist. Depending if the station sells it. normaly a high tech system is better for high level stuff. But remember the stations change thier stuff every so often.

+SQW0 There's an academic paper that came out recently that discussed warp bubbles and what kind of energy requirements you'd need in order to create a warp bubble. Honestly, the best way to start "from scratch" is to go to a low res site, get some bounties by just taking a pop at whatever the law enforcement is shooting at, then by yourself a type-6 or something with reasonable cargo, fit it for long jumps and start long range smuggling. People are saying it has been nerfed but I'm still making 5mil per hour and a half, and that's with usually messing up and getting scanned, losing 5-15mil.

Well, I am on my way to the core of the milkyway atm. somewhere half there, its funny how you scan less and less things the more jumps you make. I am only scanning the main star, all earthlike planets I find and all stars that I can scan without actualy travel within the system (so mostly only on dual stars). I was visiting the Lagoon Nebula the other day, its quite nice there and not THAT far away, there is also a interesting neutronstar formation nearby I found. I make that journey with a ASP Explorer. Fun fact: you sometimes jump directly between two really hot stars that are REALLY close to each other so you start to overheat without being within the corona :D Already lost 2% of my Hull that way. Will be interesting to see the huge Black Hole in Sag A*, its still like 12k LY away.

+BoarhideGaming that outfit is ridicolous expensive btw :) The bad thing: you are at least a moth bound to explore, there is no "I was just a Quick fight and then continue normaly" in this. It is indeed a dedication to a goal. It helps alot to have a second screen and just watch movies while you explore. I actualy could have kitted out my asp just that smal mit better, but a ~23Mio Jumpdrive is quite a bit :D I should have saved money for the verry best accecible fuelscoop, the 412u/t is just not quick enouth for a 32t Tank. (maybe I should also have goten a 64t fueltank. that or the better fuelscoop). I am actualy so broke, if I die out there, I have to start from zero again. its a all or nothing mission. (I also will recruit a couple guys to escort me when I come back in habitated space since I dont want to die on the last few jumps because I have no shield. I mean I will have scan data for a couple 10 Mio credits when I come back.

I wonder how colliding with a planet at warp speed would affect the planet. Something even with that relatively small of a mass (when compared to a planet) going at that speed must have a massive impact force.
@General12th8 жыл бұрын
+SamuelCish Presumably, the frame drive works like a warp bubble: it might be travelling faster than light, but you certainly aren't. If you ram an object with a warp bubble, tidal stress will tear it apart (and probably shower you with a deadly rain of microscopic bullets), but it'll slow down to whatever relative speed it had before you turned on the frame drive. In other words, you could drill through a planet, but you couldn't destroy it.

When starting out, I strongly suggest KEEPING your discovery scanner. It's worth quite a bit (in early game terms) to scan every unexplored star you come across and sell the data, and since you warp into systems facing the star, it takes very little time. Yes, optional internal slots are tight, but it's well worth the slot. On a semi-related note, I found out the hard way that if you want to mine in an asteroid belt, you have to scan it first. Sometimes it'll come pre-scanned in well-populated systems, but otherwise, bring at least a basic scanner. By extension, it might be difficult to do planetary landings in unexplored systems without at least a basic scanner. On another semi-related note, I also found out the hard way that mining in asteroid belts is a great way to get yourself killed. NPC pirates will blast you to bits. First (and so far, only) time I died was to some dick that thought about 20k credits worth of metals was worth it. The moral of the story is, if you hear "Scan detected" in an asteroid belt, *RUN*.

Does the game have a black market? And if so is it extra profitable?
@JohnMichaelson9 жыл бұрын
+Timothy McGuire Yes there are black markets at some stations (they're in the Contacts menu if they exist), but whether or not something is "extra profitable" to me depends on how much time you spent getting it. If something can be sold legally in a system like gold for 10000 and you take some pirated gold you shot out of someone to it, you won't get 10000 at the black market, more like 7000 or something (used to be anyway, I haven't done it for a long time). You WILL get far more money per unit because you didn't have to buy the gold first, but if you'd bought 30 tons and made 500 profit per ton, you'll make more than if you just scoop up two tons from some poor ship you spent more time hunting down, fighting, etc. Just depends on what you find more fun! Long story short, if you're going to be a black marketeer, it pays more to target ships already wanted by the authorities. You'll get the bounty for killing them on top of whatever they drop that you can collect and sell at the black market. Target their cargo hatches with the subsystems targeting key.

I tried trading in this game. After finally (mostly) working out the unintuitive controls, I jumped into hyperspace to head towards the cargo's destonation. I jumped out of cargo space before actually reaching the planet I was heading to for fear of smacking into something at extremely high speeds, so I attempted to open my map to get my bearings, only to get blown up by someone with no motivation to do so. I found out that the "someone" who destroyed my ship wasn't a griefer but by an AI that I can only guess is programmed to randomly destroy players who are trying to mind their own business. That came as the last straw of a long string of frustrations (which otherwise revolved around the controls, and the tutorial telling me TO do things without telling me HOW to do them despite supposedly being a tutorial) I had with this game, so I got the game refunded through Steam and haven't looked back until now. Where did I go wrong, Scott?
@johnderouen10389 жыл бұрын
+Mewtario Elite takes time. I haven't invested a tremendous amount in it myself (roughly 95 hours, which isn't actually that much), but once you work out the kinks it goes quickly. On the subject of controls: The default binds for roll and yaw are disastrous. I rebound my yaw to my mouse X-axis and roll to A and D. That should help a lot. The rest are, in my experience, quite good, and it just takes practice to really become proficient with them. Hope this helps; even if you decide not to return to Elite, my words on patience and practice still apply to the majority of games like it.

Do the makers of Elite plan on making some slightly.. . Bigger ships? Maybe like- A corvette, or a frigate perhaps? I'd like that...
@KRU63R9 жыл бұрын
+Tangy Slash You mean like the Federal Corvette and Imperial Cutter?
@Savsgames9 жыл бұрын
KRU63R Kinda, maybe a bit bigger; or maybe in the future maybe doing something that can be comparable to a Star Destroyer in scale
@_Digishade_9 жыл бұрын
+Tangy Slash Considering the type of flight model they have going on, that's doubtful at the moment. Even the largest ships (Anaconda, Corvette and Cutter) are forced to fly like the ships that are two or three scale sizes below them. That doesn't make them bad, but if you're expecting to just be able to jump into a system and float past a bunch of targets while your guns demolish things around you, E:D isn't that game right now. I don't really know if it will *ever* be like that. Ships have automated turrets you can equip, but they're kinda garbo atm.

If only trading in this game wasn't dull as sin.

+Kael It's pointless when prices vary so little from system to system even when no one is supplying a station with anything.
@DrRyan829949 жыл бұрын
+Kael Yeah.. I played the game for a while trying to do fun stuff for money, but standard commodity trading is by far the most reliable. I probably traded for 20 hours or so without any drama and got super bored of it, but it seems like the fastest way to get better ships... It'd be cool if the player could do things to affect the markets, like the stock market in GTAV.

+DrRyan82994 Good luck to you its kinda difficult to pull off at times but the rewards are good i would also suggest looking for a video that explains how to smuggle if your new to it or your skills got rusty. It really helped me to learn more about it before i dove right in.

Probably missing something here, but I have the horizons beta yet nothing is the 10% price, it's all full price, like I said I'm probably missing something

i am just into this game and i found few really strong, illogical things and mechanics in this pure fantastic game. For example: ship have a max speed in space (facepalm...it should be max acceleration, not a max speed) maybe ship faces a mind friction?.. another thing, power plant 2E generates 6,4 (mass 2,5 t) aaand 5E generates 13,6 (mass 20 t), maybe i can fit 3 units of 2E plants for more power and lower mass? again, no logic. Just don't tell that is game balance, they should have stronger reason for that :D so what do you think guys?

I need to get back to this game once I upgrade my flightstick. The 10-year-old Logitech stick just ain't doing it justice.

Man, going to buy this on Steam is a minefield of either great reviews, or terrible ones. It seems that all of the negative reviews of the game have one thing in common. The universe is vast in size and there is nothing to do but spend most of your time in warp travel repeating the same missions over and over again. I really like the game from a visual and sound design perspective. But really don't want to put £60 in a game that has no real gameplay. Still, the base game is £10 until Jan 4th and that is a much more reasonable price as it seems to be exactly the same as Horizons but minus the planet landing and roving. A much more reasonable risk of my money I feel.

No, you did not get money for your free sidewinder, but for the modules you bought and sold with it. Don't you think it's a bit late for a video about trading? Nothing much has changed in Horizons in this area of the game, so it's basically the same as it was one year ago with the release of ED itself.
