Heat haze in space is a pretty funny concept. I guess it's a bit like the coconut effect. People are so used to warm things shimmering that they think it looks better even when there's no air around for the light to be distorted through.

Gday Obsidian, It seems the new releases of EdFX and Reshade create some complications when installing now. Can you take a look at the new versions and see if they work for you? It seems reshade dont distribute naked files anymore but rather in an executable package. Thoughts? :D cheers mate!

Be careful if you use Elite Dangerous in VR mode. EDFX prompts you to reset the Elite Dangerous 64.exe to Windows 7 compatibility mode so ReShade files will install and be detected. But so doing removes VR compatability. I found that to get things to work have to first run in Windows 7 compatibility mode to allow the Reshade files to be installed, Then switch compatibility mode off again to actually run the game in VR.

Quick question. I am just starting ED and curious about what graphics mod I should use. I also have Horizons. I see that this video is over a year old and so I am wondering if this video is still current or if things have changed at all. The earlier video on graphics mods, Feb 2016, mentioned that there would be a separate video for Horizons since the graphics mods can have a drastic effect on the appearance of planets. so to sum up...this video still current? You still recommend EDFX? Will there be a new video coming out to update this video and include info on graphics mods for Horizons?

I find your screens and scenes very impressive with the mods, i used by my self sweetFX for a time, but i find it that with it looks less real, then the original grafic.

What puts me off from using graphic modifications is that they affect the UI. This can make text really hard to read (sharpening/blurring/antialiasing corrupting it/etc), or turn the colors crazy and make the whole HUD just obnoxious to look at. This is why I usually never use injectors despite really wanting them (SMAA is a big one; helps so much in games that don't support proper AA or AA at all). GeDoSaTo was able to workaround this by being able to affect only the 3D renderer and not the UI, but it was a very slow and technical process to ge tworking, and all my attempts for games failed, so I never considered it an option. Now though, that program has kinda fallen by the wayside and isn't really used anymore.. plus it only supports up to DX9/32bit. If only the ReShade folk got in contact with Durante and worked together to implement some sort of system like GeDoSaTo has for applying effects to specific parts of the rendering pipeline.. that would basically solve the problems injectors have had all these years.. ..Also, you should really force 16x anisotropic filtering in your driver's control panel; the station textures need it!

Y, here it applies ship's HUD colours, but nothing else is changed. Hammering the Scroll Lock button also does nothing. (I'm using the Steam version). :\ I've put the reshade .7z into the folder EDFX asked and it says it's Successfully Installed, so I dunno what it needs more. Even exited Fraps like it suggested...

Finally got it working on the steam one. Had the wrong path for the ".exe". And also disabled the Steam overlay for the game, just in case. Not sure which one did the trick, or both, but it works now.

I've tried to use EDFX in the past, but I always find that it makes the gamma in the game too bright. I have tried to turn off the ambient light settings, but ship cockpits are still too bright. Is there any other settings that can be changed to stop this from happening?

Jason Rohrer you use reshade and edfx to adjust the game to what you want. Edfx has presets but you don't need to use them. Its just an interface for reshade essentially. Take a preset you like and then adjust the game to your liking then save your preset.

Default graphics are best in ED! I love reshade and other graphics mod but i feel like ED quite hit the sweet spot and i dont need to modify it. Maybe heat haze and heat glow would probably wouldn't hurt.

I've been using EDFX as well. I hope Skypat updates it to use the new ReShade though, as 2.x is no longer supported. Luckily you have a link to the old one here, as the needed version for EDFX can be very difficult to find otherwise :p

Have you tried ReShade 3? It has its own game overlay UI and the settings changes appear in realtime so you can see exactly what you're doing.

How did you get the Nebula in 4:10 to look like an actual nebula and not the random copy/pasted asset blobs that Frontier calls nebula?

The issue I had with EDFX a while back is that while it uses Reshade, the creator doesn't seem to update EDFX to be compatible with the latest Reshade and the Reshade creator has removed old versions from its main site, making you have to find and old Reshade on your own as it's not included in EDFX. Not only that, but the version of EDFX I tried kept sending me to the Reshade site to download a compatible version, when there is no compatible version on that site and that seems like a huge oversight from the EDFX creators, not knowing what's going on with Reshade they are forcing you to use. Even on EDFX's website there's a link to the mandatory Reshade 2.x, yet they never checked that you can no longer download 2.x from Reshade's website, but the link is still there, it's wrong, and nobody seems to care.

I'm giving edfx a go but the only thing that has been a little troublesome is I use 100% digital vibrance(because of csgo) and the colors are a bit overwhelming. Its pretty much like 200% digital vibrane. Not sure on a solution yet but edfx is amazing.

OK, so for those looking for EDFX+Reshade this will, be useful - reshade.me/forum/troubleshooting/2517-sweetfx-and-reshade If you want them together then it will have to be an older version of Reshade. With Reshade you can download a few presets for EDFX but hitting shift + f2 brings up the Reshade GUI in game and let's you make your own presets.

Not played Elite since the original on the BBC so when hi do get round to playing my KS backers copy it's going to take me by surprise anyway. Still interesting to see the mod effects. I hope frontier further enhance the looks as we expect them to as they progress. Not having a PC able to play games has its benefits using new iPads more these days to view content like this. The old 2004 build PC still gets used but more once or twice a week. So I missed all the early bugs, the lack of decent missions, not having good tutorials etc. You lot will be walking about your ships and space ports before I get my arse in gear and get the promised high end rig.

Keeps giving me the error that reshade is not installed. I am also not entirely sure what 2.X.X version I should install and how exactly I do that. I put reshade64 in my horizons folder but it stills does not recognize it..

The best option to get some better graphics surely is to just get the reshade tool and construct a shader that fits your taste. It is certainly fun to tinker around with all the effects.

TehFocus you don't have to use any of edfx's presets. You can set your own. Its essentially a graphic interface for reshade making it way easier to use reshade.

Actually all it seems to be able to do is change my HUD colours. Although the tool is installed along with ReShade, and claims to have applied any profile I choose, no change can be seen in game even after relaunch.

Yes it is, I have been using it on multiple steamgames for quite a while. The only thing that does not work is taking screenshots with steam since it is post processing which steam itself does not detect. There is a workaround for this but I do not know how to do that in Elite.

Is this currently broken? I have installed all the shaders from v2.x and every time I load the game it fails to load the shaders..... I installed them all to the horizons folder... not sure if that's the right place. I tried all the 2.x versions and have the same problem with all of them anything above 2.x just crashes the game.

Downloaded them both and unpacked. Don't understand it tbh. There's a dialogue box saying 'show me the way to elite dangerous64' (I have horizons) and when I clicked on it, it took me to the downloads folder. It also said reshade was not installed (which it is) and sent me to an entirely different download link. It's late and I think it's time for horlicks, so I'll try again tomorrow. A tutorial video would be appreciated. Cheers!

I sussed it all out. Found the Elite 64.exe and got the reshade framework in the update folder. Great piece of software. Got it to open VA, EDDI FacetrackNoIR and ED Launcher as soon as I open it. Take two bottles into the shower? Not me...

If you use FacetrackNoIR I highly recommend DelanClip as a cheap LED set up for your headset.
