Some great tips there. I find that when driving over rocky/uneven ground, using drive assist helps - just set the throttle up to a low speed and leave it.

default text works as a great setup for controller. back button = autopilot throttle RT=Throttle LT=Reverse A=handbrake it's nice. love the videos.

You are unbelievable ObsidianAnt. I JUST tried horizon for the first time and i thought the SRV is undrivable. I was just saying i wish ObsidianAnt make a video about how to drive it and BOOM u uploaded one!!! unbelievable! Thank YOU.. Also i did a stupid thing which is trying to land on a planet with my A-class Anaconda and crashed it costing me 14Mil. So anyone trying horizon for the first time try it with a Sidewinder first. Before u lose ur anaconda on a 3G planet lol.

From someone that wanted to specialize in combat at first, this is a really fun second. Ive never really liked driving games but something about the SRV and the gravitational changes is special. I would love to see the SRV upgradable in some way. Also SRV racing minigames from the main menu would be awesome and a fun and risk free way to get better at driving. As a new player Ive been trying to google 'Is there any point to scanning other data points other than the one needed for the mission' but as you can imagine that didnt work out. Great to have that question answered. Didnt even notice the 'x out of three' points to be scanned and wondered why I was scanning these other points. I thought the countdown was just a 'wait this long until you can scan it again' kind of thing. Now I need to learn how to use the Surface Scanner as I'm sure that interacts with SRV exploration in a useful way.

Great video, cheers for the tips! Do you have any idea if it's possible to put headlook on the right stick? I can't seem to figure out some of the binding options, I've got the turret using it at the moment but when in cockpit the right stick doesn't do anything, being able to use it to look around would be really useful.

For Mouse and Keyboard users try turning drive assist OFF and bind W/S to accelerate/decelerate (button, not axis) and AD to steer left/right. With drive assist off W/S will give 100% forward/reverse throttle while held, and drop to 0% throttle when released. It's not analog, but it's as close as you can get. For travelling longer distances turn drive assist back on, and configure what % of throttle each key press will add as you prefer.

Great as ever OA, but would love you to say how should set up a Hotas, what to leave alone and what to do where. As I find that with the new options, its so easy to get confused. For instance acceleration, on my throttle stick I had it so that if I pressed forward I'd accelerate faster, and back off slow down. And in the middle it would stop. So far not been able to find that same sort of setting in the SRV as in the ship. Makes driving it harder. Anyway any tips for how you bind what to where, and what you leave alone, would be great.

+Coupious Black Choose "Docking Request" from the right UI, and you will be able to take your SRV back to your ship. Strange way of doing it I know.

Great tutorial obsidian, I can't help but notice that your graphics and textures on the surface of the planet look amazing. I have everything set to ultra and I'm not getting these results with a geo force 9600 graphics card and HD monitor! What settings do you use please? What monitor do you have?

If I could just make a slight suggestion -if I may - perhaps use the default UI red colour scheme for the tutorials so it's more instantly readable to new players. 'Danger' colours appear differently.

Thanks OA. I use an xbox controller and I mapped the left trigger to reverse. It needed a bit of fiddling, but it's do-able. I'll post details if anyone needs help doing it.

now the big question is, can you use the Pad and the stick at the same time (Enumerating it inside the game)? I would hate to have to change entire profiles only because I am landing on a planet, then change it back to PAd and so on.

Steering I am using a thrustmaster TX forcefeedback wheel... this game needs force feedback and support for racing wheels - i spin out a lot.

how do I refuel my scarab, I found that after hours of using it, it wasnt refueling with my ship and there was no option at a station, when I died in the scarab at 20% fuel, i restocked at a station but the new scarab had the 20% fuel like the last one.

+The Slime Man I had the same problem with moving and steering, just hit the start button go to settings and scroll down to the Driving option and select your own choice, with steering is the same step you can check that out in the settings menu. Let me know if you find out how to boost! Cheers And im also on the Xbox one!

I bought the game a year ago, so spending another $45 isn't that bad to but I would be unhappy if I just bought the game and had to pay another $45 for a new "season" of updates. Core game is way overpriced right now, should be $15.

+therainbowpigs Steam forums is literally filled with people that doesn't have the game and comment negatevely on horizons. Those are the worst kind of gamers you can find. Personally I'm loving it, it adds tons of variety to missions and planetary landings are a dream come true for every sci fi fan.

+therainbowpigs Im going to be completely honest with you, besides some of the little missions, it doesn't change the core game at all hardly, lucky for me I really enjoy the core gameplay as it is and love the emptyness it gives(its a galaxy people, it is so big you wouldnt be seeing all that many people anyways). Now if your an explorer and have a strong passion in astronomy and really enjoy seeing planets and stars and traveling long distances across the galaxy, Id say it is worth it!! There is plenty of variation in the planets to keep you exploring and giving a reason to go down to them to see their features. If you arent into all of that, then I recommend you wait until a few of the updates such as multicrew crafting, and cities come out so there is a little bit more to do for the average player. Personally I am excited for volcanism the most, it is my dream to land on moons like Io and Triton!!!!!
