I can't believe how friendly the communities of the respective games are, everyone is on the same team. Whenever there's 2 similar games, all the fans of one game will hate on the other. With this genre, it's "hey, look how cool X looks in game Y! Do you think we'll get that in our own game?"

Something about the gimballed nerf: Yesterday, 11:16 AM Tom Kewell Designer- Elite: Dangerous Hi all! Some of you might have noticed we've done a bit of a balancing pass on gimballed weapons As with all game balancing it's an ongoing process, so we're reading your reactions with interest. The intention of the current set up is to create a system where the player must aim their ship in tandem with the gimbaling guns tracking to get the most out of targeting. We're looking to make a system where player's can't totally rely on the tracking of their weapons, and good pilots can fly in a way that allows them to score more hits. That being said, the current version is intentionally harsh, testing the extremes of what can be used. It is unlikely to be the permanent solution (unless you all turned out to love it!). I think the tracking rates you saw in PB1 were too high, but the current rates will be balanced up once we have had some time to experiment with the current system.

TowerSavant Left handed sticks shouldn't be hard (Check out the T-16000M). I don't know about the throttle though.
@isodoublet10 жыл бұрын
TheSkipjack95 They are not inverted. It's very common for airplane controls to be that way, look at any Cessna single engine for instance. In a civilian aircraft you're not supposed to be doing jerky precision maneuvers anyway so the finer motor control of the right hand is not required. Pilots don't care and will quickly get used to whatever they're flying at the moment -- it's really minor compared to all the rest of the stuff that they have to get acclimated to in a new aircraft. Fighters and aerobatic aircraft seem to favor a right hand on the stick setup a little more consistently, for obvious reasons.

@pseudocoder7810 жыл бұрын
If you view the streams by FireyToad or Mendeck on Twitch TV, they've been doing close flybys of the orbis station on a fairly regular basis the last few days. The settlements inside the habitation rings aren't too elaborate, it's just a light-mapped texture on the inside of the ring that looks a bit like a super mario world map or something. You can't see people or buildings really. It looks much better from medium distance than from really close up.

I hoped that they would show off a new spaceship design! The D20 space station does look interesting and certainly unique, but tends to look a bit bland after seeing it all the time! The torus though looks very very neat especially with the sun shining in like that, but in all honesty, I hope that thing isn't really made of glass. I mean, I wouldn't build it that way. As for the Space Ford, I like the stubby design too. Reminds me of that spaceship that NASA wanted to use to originally replace the shuttle, I think it was the X-33, although they definitely wanted this to be a space truck. It even has the air vents! As always Scott, thank you kindly for reminding us why we should all buy this game!

@Dante8010 жыл бұрын
The "space dust" that you see is an interactive projection by your cockpit UI that gives you situational awareness and conveys information about the actual vector you are currently flying at. The streaks are not physical objects in the game, and you will see them disappear if for whatever reason your glass canopy breaks. Remember, this is a spaceship with 6 degrees of freedom in flying around (pitch, yaw, roll, strafe x,y, move forward and backwards) so in the limited frame of reference space provides you need something to convincingly convey speed and vector. Hope that helps, cheers..C:

Jully 15th : Premium Beta wont be available to buy anymore. jully 29th : End of PB, Second round beta(standard beta) starts. and the expansion pass is retired from the store. 295$ was for alpha access, that's over now.

Have to call you on it Scott, wouldn't the two rings have the same rate of rotation but totally different angular velocities? v=s/t so a greater circumference means greater velocity, no?
@scottmanley10 жыл бұрын
No, the ring further out orbits more slowly.
@MrLareneon10 жыл бұрын
Scott Manley Are they not fixed to the central shaft?
@Nic0maK10 жыл бұрын
If the angular speed in rad/s is the same, the closer you are to the center, the slower you are in terms of m/s. d=2pi*radius, v=d/t. if the radius increases, then d increases. if d increases, but t stays the same, v will increase. in other words you have to travel more distance in the same amount of time, the conclusion is simple, you need to go faster. but i think we all understand that, someone in the bigger ring travels more distance in the same amount of time than someone standing in the smaller ring "further out". even though the angular speed is the same.
@scottmanley10 жыл бұрын
Are you guys trolling? Planetary rings are made up of particles orbiting the planet under the force of gravity, as such the velocity of particles in the rings is v = sqrt(GM/r) Where G = universal constant of gravitation, M = mass of planet, r = distance from center of planet. So, the particles in orbits further out don't need to move as fast as particles closer in.

Scott, Question: when you were approaching the first station i noticed you were able to roll the space craft as gracefully as the rotation of the station, so my problem is, is there anyway to map the smoothness of the controls? as when ever i roll it's only 2 different levels of force that my device inputs which is a logitech extreme 3D pro, i find that with elite there is no smooth turning, it's only "roll left, and the ship rolls left at a constant speed, i can't roll smoothly and match the angular momentum of the station, it always goes either too slow or too fast, hope you get my *drift* lol
@Nic0maK10 жыл бұрын
have you set your roll&pitch controls on axis or on pitch up/down & roll left/right? if the latter, then remove those and bind it to pitch axis and roll axis.

Very nice video Scott!! I have a question about the game. I have seen a lot of vids and once a while there are new star systems to be discovered. But apart from the different goods that you can buy in those new star systems, they all look exactly the same to me. Maybe a different sun and planet color but that's it. To me it feels that this game will be boring after discovering a few star systems: been there done that. What is the thrill of the game?
@Nic0maK10 жыл бұрын
I wouldnt consider the curent look of systems as final, just in the last update they change clouds, and textures need some improvement as well. though even if they make it much better, there may be no way to not make it look samey, do we know if the real galaxy wouldnt? the gameplay is quite basic at the moment, not much to do except fighting or trading. there's a long list of things to come like missions for instance, from which i expect a lot. this will work together possibly with the background event simulation, events will create opportunities, missions etc... i'm looking forward to playing with friends in coop, making missions together this kind of thing. i'm also waiting for landings on planets and the walking around within ships and stations but those will come as expansions.
