After a mistake on the previous version, I've made this video with corrections based on user feedback.
An exploration build for players who have access to a moderate amount of credits, engineers, and tech broker unlocks. Fully capable of exploring the galaxy fringes.
This is an intermediate level build for moderately skilled players.

Late to the party but nice video! My first explorer was an AspX so I was able to just move a bunch of the stuff over. I'm only on about 60ly jump range on my Phantom so far but it's got a bunch of suboptimal gear and the only fully engineered thing is my FSD and haven't unlocked the pre engineered one yet. Second explorer was a Hauler on my alt. Then when I go onto my alt again I'll be getting a DBX. That's the small tincan exploration account, then my main is the comfortable exploration and other content.

Relying on the 1 SRV only for materials - I think is unwise. You can repair an SRV if it gets damaged, but its too easy roll one of these over and either be trapped under rock so you cannot use the vertical boosters to lift off and right yourself, or roll it over so close to your ship the vertical boosters will not engage - this happened to me today. I've also begun a gaming session to find the game spawned the SRV on a rock so the first thing that happened is it rolled onto its roof. Vertical boosters got me out of that one. I would fit a 2SRV bay in a slot 5, put a 3A AFMU in and make sure I had a max stock of materials to synthesis more AFMU ammo - and also fit a mining laser or mining lance.

Thanks for the tips on the fit out and the reasoning behind it. I'm getting ready for my first deep space exploration trip and the KP has the flexibility that I'm looking for

Thanks for answer my question on Mining Lance. You are correct on engineering the pulse laser to lighten the weigh. I was just thinking able to mine some material in space without landing.

I agree with you - SRV's too fragile and easy to roll into places you can't boost them out of or be too close to your ship to boost. Mining laser or lance is important. One mining lance is lighter than 1 pulse laser plus one mining laser however much you engineer them. I'm going with a mining lance.

I adore my Krait Phantom, its my second favorite ship behind my Keelback (I guess I like terrible or suboptimal ships). I'm going to experiment with this when I get back to the bubble, I'm really enjoying using my ship launched fighter for my Keelback explorer right now!

The phantom is amazing. It has everything i need for exploration. I retired my Diamondback and Asp Explorer.

its a great ship. I took mine to Beagle point. I wish I had known your build before I went. it was a last min purchase to join distant worlds 2

Much improved from earlier build, Guardian P/Plant gives more power, saves on engineering, and although heavier I still get over 70ly jump range. Also I've never needed weapons out in the black, just run if req'd. However you are obviously a more inquisitive explorer than me. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

Edit: Forgot to mention, Krait Phantom a great ship for exploration and yes I did use an ASP X initially.

They must have seriously nerfed the sh1t out of it in the last year. Looks like the 6D Sensor went from 3.2T to 16T and the 5D Shield generator from 4T to 8T. The same identical setup as you have in your video now gives 241m/s & 337m/s boost not (344 & 482 boost) and MAX light year is now down to 45.46LY vs 75.70LY (loss of 30LY). I was really looking forward to build one but for 91 million to build it's definitely not worth it anymore. Great video regardless buddy. Sub'd & liked.

I Don't understand... oOn my Krait, there is much less and less stuff that makes all the stuff lighter. Only heatsink and life support is not engeneered with light Weight. How can there be such a difference from yours? I have a smaller shield, a smaller guardian powerplant, you even have a cargo rack and I don't have a limpit controller. How can your ship have 2 times as much fsd range with a lot more and heavier stuff? My ship has a range of 64ly at best. I can't comprehend ... what did I do wrong?

i have very similar build, mine is 14t lighter than yours but you still have LY jump advantage (max 71,92 vs 75,7). How come?

One question, is a 3D shield generator and 5E cargo rack too squishy?

Dependant on the application. if you're talking about an exploration ship, I'm not sure why you would need a 5E cargo rack, but the shields are fine assuming the game let you stick them on. If you're talking about a trade ship, and incidental combat, then yes, you are too squishy.

@@DryHeatAndSand Thanks mainly for exploration - I was just looking at saving a bit of weight (not going to use the full 5E), and I have an engineered 3D on my Keelback Explorer. Trying to avoid doing another engineer grind right now.

A non-engineered 4D on a Phantom was enough to come out of a glide and smack into a cliff with one bar of shields remaining. I think you can get away with a 3D or survive with possible need for hull repairs or engineer the 3D reinforced a bit.
