If you go to see Elvira in the KHUN system, next door is ROSS 667, it has Alexander Terminal and a metal ringed planet 46Ls from the station, plenty of RES and Praseodynium in the rings for the 2nd upgrade.

Hi Obsidian, great vid as usual, here some tips from me: To raise rep with Felicity I made a 20,000 LJ trip prior to the update and scanned gas giants with life and amonia worlds as well as water worlds and earthlikes. Selling the exploration data to felicity took me to level 5 with her in no time I actually only needed half the data I collected. Wanting a grade 5 FSD range on my asp I started to gather the mats I needed: 6 hours of Pollonium farming gave me 6 units. (2 per try needed) (by the way lower tier I think up to tier 4 materials can now also be obtained as mission rewards OR from mining) Wake scans around a station took me about 2 hours for the 6 tier 5 scans I needed. Gathering the materials from ships is a bit tricky, it says in the desctription that those are dropped from hauling vessels so everything from a hauler to a type 9 transport drop the mats the higher combat level the opponent the more likely rares drop. (Find an anarchy system and get a FSD interdicter ;) ) To get the commodities you need to do missions. According to the description I needed to do missions in a refinery system close to leetsi. For the higher level commodities, you need to gain friendly with the faction to get the higher paying missions that include these commodities as rewards. I finally managed to get enough materials to try the grade 5 FSD range upgrade 3 times. The second try gave me a result in the upper third of the scale which I kept. They seam to have change this particular effect to be more effective I have a range maxed asp with 37.6 lj max which has now a max range of 50.4 light years. 44 LJ with a full tank. Pretty decent and I am very happy with this. one final tip get the commodities last because as long as you carry them you will get frequently interdicted. When finally going to upgrade your exploration vessel you might want to store it in a station close to farseer inc. so that when you switch to the exploration vessel the chance of getting interdicted and killed so loosing the commodities is as small as possible. You can also get materials like Arsenic from asteroids rings around planets. If you use a prospector limpet, it will tell you the material content of the targeted asteroid. I've found about four or five chunks of Arsenic, as well as other rarer resources just from the three times I've went mining, and it's super easy to just sit there and let your drones do the collecting for you. Nice change of pace from my normal bounty hunting.

Obsidian, I think I speak for a lot of people when I say THAAAANK YOU! I've spent 2 whole days searching planets, asteroid rings, and online forums looking for arsenic with no luck. Not a single piece in this whole time! I found all the other supplies in less than an hour but arsenic is a real pain (I went from 150k kilometers traveled in the SRV to just a little over 1 million to give you an idea). I finally gave up and decided to watch some youtube only to find your video. Also for anyone looking the System is Carnsan and its the second planet (Carnsan 2). Thank you again!

You dont need to do all upgrades to unlock other levels, you can rank up with that engeneer by selling to her exploration data ( i dont know is elvira leveling up the same). I managed to level up up to 3 level by giving her only 400 000 credits of exploration data.

You can gain rep with all the engineers for doing things specific to their line of work. The blaster you need to hand in bounty or combat vouchers (not sure if one or both work), but they must be from Aliiance or specific from his system. Fed or imperial ones wont work.

@ObsidianAnt 3:25 (to 3:40) when you talk about the new weapon effect, that green laser is in fact your point defence shooting at missiles. Also It seems that the point defence will shoot at missiles when they pass by from behind.

a grind is just doing stuff repeatedly that doesnt really satisfy you.. so if you dont like combat.. having to get materials droped from blowing up ships = a grind. Etc. as for an Explorer.. doing most stuff in the bubble can feel like a grind already.

Shit, Your comment is 4 years old but I’m still gonna write it!. For me it isn’t the the combat or the exploration or anything else like that, that’s grindy. it’s the painfully long travel time before you can do those things that bothers me, what is around 2 hours of fighting involves double the time or more in just jumping and traveling to those locations!. And it’s not like it’s a good way to explore either because the planets and systems I pass to the various locations are so lackluster I want to put a bullet in my head. It’s a goddam loading screen with extra steps between the locations.

Its true that you sadly just can't "play the game" to get the materials needed for some of the upgrades. For example. If you want the level 5 FSD drives that give you greater range, you will need polonium. 2 in fact for each roll of the dice. If you just "play the game" like I did, 6 months later you still wouldn't have found any polonium. Some people say it can be found on high metal worlds in and near large craters. That is partially true. The unfortunate aspect is that it is only on certain high metal content worlds. Not all all of them. Just specific ones. I went to a world that was surveyed by other players and after 3 days of searching "grinding", I managed to find 4 pieces of polonium. So it proves that "just play the game" as some forum people are fond of regurgitating is not practical. You actually have to grind to get certain materials to get some of the upgrades. It is also possible to do missions and get materials, but once again the missions that have those very rare materials are also very rare and once again you need to grind the mission boards to get those specific missions. The grind must stop. I love grinding. It is my style of play, but even I say this is going too far, because it takes faaaaaarrrrrr tooooooo looooooonng to do.

Not really, with felicity having your fsd range maxed makes your jump distance go from 60 ly to like 80 Its definitely worth

You can sell the exploration data at Felicity too. Arsenic can be found at the High Metal Content planet on the same system. Allegedly, chemical processors can be obtained through missions. They drop in better numbers from hauling ships, so nav beacon smugglers may be a better bet. From a level 2 upgrade a 29ly DBE moved to 35. A trading clipper moved from 16 to 23.

Thanks for the video. It may take time to get an upgrade, but remember that the increase in range from different grades of FSD isn't much either, but each cost a bunch of money (A 4A costing about 1 million credits) and it would also take time to raise that money. So the time involved is simply a proxy for cost.

Don't get hung up looking for specific materials until you unlock level 4/5 mods, just level up by grinding any mods you have materials for. Within two days I had three engineers at level 4 and in the interim folks have already started cataloging the locations of materials for specific mods

first you have to give her meta alloys. When you will get your 5 grade with all of your data.

You don't need Arsenic for level 5 FSD if you are looking for the greater range. You will need 2 Polonium for each roll plus a few other materials and a commodity

I went on an arsenic hunt last week and once I worked out how to use the wave scanner I actually started to enjoy the hunt. Sadly in an hour I only found 9 units of arsenic, but seeing it took you the same time to find less I feel better that I got what I did. I'm not intending to go foraging like this too often but now I know how I'm am a little less intimidated by it now. Love the videos, keep up the good work.

and remember you you can get all the way to level 3 fairly quickly just churning level 1 upgrades. Then a handful of level 2 upgrades will get you to level 5. Saving you the time to collect the higher level rarer mats. I generally use level 1 upgrade until I am at level 3.5 and then level 2 upgrades to get to level 5. I generally don't bother with level 3 and 4 upgrades unless I know it will be a while before I can gather the level 5 mats.

So I’m a fairly new player to Elite Dangerous. I have a Cobra MK3 and I love it but I have a 22 light year Jump rage which is pretty good for an early game ship. However, I usually never get jumps longer than 10 LY when plotting a route. This means it takes forever to travel to far away systems and makes my missions take long which means I make less credits. Am I doing something wrong? I upgraded my jump drive and it says I should have 22 LY range so why do I never get more then 10 LY.

I already did 5 grade FSD for my Corvette. It was WORSE than my previos grade 4. So i stay with 4 grade for now. Next time i willl make grade 5 for my ASP. 17LY Corvette btw. Chemical processors are very easy to obtain. Just do some missions. Where will be hell of a lot of them from enemy that will pirsue you. Your main problem will be chemical manipulators (from POI surface). ETA DRACONIS sistem planet 4 and 7 have arsenic. Planet 4 - arsenic and polonium. Planet 7 Arsenic and Yutrium. Don't forget to mark them in your bookmarks. Polonium - Po, Arsenic - As, Yutrium - Y. Fly safe, Ant) If you need more help. Just ask.

Here's a question. If your ship get's destroyed, and you've got these upgrades, do you keep them through the rebuy? Or do you have to start from scratch, grind all over again, to get the same upgrades that you previously had?

You get to keep them on the rebuy. If you sell them however, you would have to do all the work to get them back again.

It's worth pointing out that Arsenic is a Common material not Rare. It drops from messosiderites about 1/4 of the time but only on certain planets. Apparently it also drops from outcrops but in 50-ish outcrops I didn't get any to drop. Don't bother with Bronzite Chondrites they only drop very common materials that drop at the time from the other sources.

ObsidianAnt used his Vulture and another ship (Viper?) to collect resources and data, which he then delivered in his Asp for upgrades at the Engineers. How do you do that? Resources and data don't transfer when you switch ships, right? Or do these work differently than cargo? Does he use two computers and perform a "self" hand-off? Or perhaps rely on another commander to hold your stuff while you switch ships? Any other ways to do this?

You can sell exploration data to both elvira and martuuk and feliciti. You dont need grade 1 upgrade in oder to upgrade grade 2. its all about the reputation.

Old video, but if anyone is looking for ways to get Arsenic and other rare materials - get a surface scanner and an SRV, go to Upsilon Phoenicis A1, scan the planet and find Lava Spouts, and start farming. I got load of As and other useful crap in like 15 to 20 minutes.

I knew they would be and mostly because I just wanted a fresh restart just to see how much different and how long the grind would take me. So with that said what is the most common method for getting credits in the game quickly. Is it still Hi RES sites like before or can we finally do missions at a decent pace..?

I wouldn't go to Hi RES at all until you've obtained a fairly capable ship with decent engineer upgrades. You can go High sec RES though but you'll have to stick with the system security if you want to stand a chance.

Fastest way is going for the community goals, doing the bare minimum always puts you in around the top 75%, and ends up netting you between 1-5 M cr, for a minimal time investment
