Omg, gun guy's accent is awesome. But I find myself disappointed with these scenarios. How often do we ever even know someone is about to stab us in the back in real life? Let's see real surprise! I'd like to see ambush scenarios. Let Knife guy get settled into a building say... 5mins to find a spot. Gun guy has to find him. THAT would be compelling and fascinating. Then reverse it, Gun guy settles, Knife guy finds him. *sigh*, I'll just make my own KvG fight... with hookers... and black jack!

Great suggestion for a training scenerio. Also an "overran" situation could be added with multiple melee attackers.

About 3.5 second for a "trained Leo or mill" person to react to an ambush which is usually the case and they do typically happen within about thirty feet and are planned attacks. 1.5 second for the attacking person to travel about 21feet. And inflict serous injury. Their is no one shot stop and thinking about a head shot. Better be a serious headhunter. It's not my opinion. It's proven facts.

Zero was shooting unloading before he has identify his target. He does not know whether the man who's rushing him a threat or not. He is only trying to unload his first round as soon as possible(which is pretty damn fast from concealment), but in all practical scenarios, I think the blade will have the edge on this. I will have to watch this series.

whoever is the aggressor on the unprepared will have the advantage. If he had a gun the advantage would be even bigger. That being said, everybody knows in extreme close quarters with equal skill and weapons holstered the person with a knife has the edge :) If someone has a knife you want to pull away, but if he has a gun you want to close in (if escape isnt possible)

I agree the ambusher has advantage over ambushee regardless of weapon system, but in regards to identifying the target how long would you suggest he wait? Until he is getting stabbed? If you wait until the attacker is actually attacking you I would say you're probably way behind the curve and it's too late at that point. You can see from the video at this distance there is less than 2 seconds to gauge the threat, maybe less than 1 sec or right around 1 sec. If he hesitates to try and look at the person rushing him to view his hands etc he would fail every time. Regardless Zero had eyes on target every time. He wasn't just spraying bullets. IMHO. Should be a super interesting series. Can't wait

I think it's pretty safe to assume that anyone rushing another human being from behind them with a weapon in their hands is a threat. Truth of the matter is his first shot wasn't fatal, it was meant to incapacitate the target so he could accurately assess the threat level of the target. From that distance, factoring in the skill level of the gunman, Gun has a large advantage in this little experiment.

I carry a cold steel GI Tanto openly on my vest left side, and use to openly carry ridiculousness holster on my right side vest. one is a tool, and one is a weapon. I think knowing both is fundamental. I've trained Krav Maga for many years, and train militia. no matter how bad ass the operator is. When the gun is empty there better be some epic hand to hand to back it up. great idea for a series study guys! at night, even Rambo's knife is invisible.

Doug Marcaida is one of the MOST highly skilled Kali, Eskrima, and Silat practitioners in the world. I would like to see what would happen if Doug was close range (within 3-4 feet of his target) so he wouldn't have to close the distance in such a dynamic fashion, firearm or none, if Doug was within edged weapon range and his target didn't know his intention, not many people in the world would have the chance to react fast enough to come out without several major arteries, tendons, nerve motor points lacerated and/or bones broken, severely limiting the targets movement/ability to react and just bleed-out. Probably rather quickly and most likely VERY painfully. IMO

Team knife. I'm excited for this series, as it raises some very interesting arguments and creates a new perspective on an old adage. Certainly, in ambush and surprise scenarios, the knife has the edge provided the distance is short enough or can be shortened enough without alerting the target. However, in any scenario with a greater distance than can be closed in the space of time it takes the target to react, the knife will fail vs the gun. However, I do feel that someone who trains to break contact in an unexpected manner as they present their gun will gain themselves an advantage in surprise. I'd be interested to see if executing a dive roll that not only breaks contact but brings one around to engage the attacker would give one enough of an edge. People say pulling moves like this is only going to get you killed, that they increase risk beyond what one can handle. I feel that if you're being charged from behind like this, you're already in a very high risk situation and that any move you make is going to be risky, so why not move in a manner that creates fighting space while disorienting the aggressor and repositioning you so that you can now face the threat? I think making aggressive and fast moves (such as a dive roll) can do this. It's fast, unexpected, and changes the circumstances more to your favor. I don't know, but I really want to try this with a sparring partner to find out now.

You are quite right. Most "gun guys" (I'm not saying this is true of Zero) seem to have trouble realizing that in really close quarters you have to deal with the most immediate problem (in this case the knife) first. Then, if you can create the proper relative positioning, you can employ your gun.

I would say that the outcome is completely dependent on the scenario. From the scenario I see here, where the knifeman has a blind ambush on the gunman in a public setting, the knifeman will always win because of the need for the gunman realize there is a threat and identify the attacker. You can't just go shooting every jogger who happens to be trying to pass you. And there is no way to assume that any footsteps behind you means an attack in an everyday scenario. The gunman only wins when little to no collateral damage is possible and ambush is probable, else the second or two needed for target acquisition and identification, prior to being able to draw from concealment, will be plenty long enough for several well placed punctures and quick bleed out. But in most cases like that, the gunman should already have his weapon out and be scanning for threats. Unless this is something like an alley behind a business and the gunman steps out for a smoke. Danger possible, encounters with pedestrians unlikely, and good reason the gunman would be concealing instead of presenting and scanning for threats. Still, I think by the time the gunman can assume attack, identify the threat, and begin to draw from concealment, he would have been stuck and be in the process of bleeding to death. They say that in a knife fight its not a matter of if you will get cut, but how badly. #TeamKnife Semper Fi

In a real combat scenario, a knife wielder at that distance will win over a gun wielder. But situational awareness and running to create distance MAY tie the gun wielder or he MAY even be at an advantage against a knife wielder opponent. The distance created or maintained will give a gun wielder to reach out for his gun, take cover by finding obstacles along the dash against his opponent and shoot.
