@@jashuacolbert6849eally nothing. When they start to go down a little it’s better to grab the bar so they don’t drop it suddenly and get hurt. On rewatch, yeah he did grab that really early. I don’t think he was used to people letting the bar rest on their chests like he did though so I don’t think he’s completely incompetent.

Supportive, sure. But taking the bar from someone before they ask an actually injure someone. A good spotter waits and recognizes a failed lift, not make the judgement call because they feel the lifter can’t do so. Spotters are there to assist the lift or assist the bail, never to lift the bar for the lifter

Yeah. I'm beginning to really like the idea of going to a gym, bettering myself physically, (but more importantly to me) to recapture the self-discipline and self-esteem that I learned while doing Karate as a kid. Everyone else wanted to beat people up. I was perfectly happy just learning to focus, and put my energy exactly where it needed to be to accomplish a goal. I'm 35 now, and on disability. But what I know I need in life is that discipline. I know nothing about gyms, but I'm certainly looking forward to moments like this, because I know I'll need a *LOT* of help starting my journey.

Though if something did go wrong, he was in a poor position to help with that weight. Even professional spotters are not quick enough. Should always use safety bars. They don't get distracted, they don;t need to react. They just work.

To be fair, there were a lot of guys there and someone could have also grabbed the other side. The guy in blue was pointing for someone to grab the other side. For that amount of weight (405lbs) three guys are needed or one very strong guy.

Why not? If it’s there’s no clips on there, then it dumps the weight off one side making it easy to throw the entire thing off of the person benching. Seems you never bailed out a heavy rep before. Never use clips if you’re going stupid heavy or are alone.
