Thanks, I think I am following your instructions and the tennis ball is secure but seems to be firing my quads more than glutes, any thoughts. I run alot and have being doing squats alot in the last 10 weeks so my quads and glutes should not be too bad, I am in early 50s

Hey! I was wondering, how does it make it quad dominant if foot is pushed into the ground and glute dominant if the foot is off the ground? Isnt the only difference the activation of tibialis anterior and extensors?

When you're foot is on the ground you will push your toes not into the ground but frontal which makes you extend the knee and it becomes quad dominent

What is the reason behind using the tennis ball?

The ball helps you make sure you're flexing your hip enough.

This ball method fix your pelvis in a slight posterior pelvic tilt wich is what we want for glutes activation. Very often, people try to open there hips to the ceiling during the bridge instead of thinking "glutes".

What exactly is controversial about glute activation? Any idea?

People will fight you on it and say there’s no such thing as “glutes not firing” because they are always on. They are a core and postural muscle and therefore they are always on. So he is clarifying saying that yes they are always on but it doesn’t mean that they have successfully been able to work them through the full range of motion as the prime mover without compensation from your quads or even lumbar extension in this case and in many people’s case who have anterior pelvic tilt
